SNW uniforms and characters revealed (old and new)

Wow, the bbs was broken for a while there. Too...much...information

Glad to see they didn't go too overboard with TOS characters. Uhura, Chapel and M'Benga seem about right. I imagine M'Benga replaced Boyce?

The uniforms I'm not 100% sure about. The black undershirt needs a higher collar.

A descendant of Khan's... We'll see. My big fear is that it'll retroactively make Kirk and crew look really foolish in "Space Seed."
By the time Kirk and crew discovered who Khan was in "Space Seed," the possible fact that a distant descendant of his had served on the Enterprise years earlier would be a moot point, IMO.

I'm also not a fan of the SNW uniforms or hairstyles, especially Spock's. Though I am fine with Spock being beardless. Feels like these uniforms are shoehorned in perhaps to just make SNW stand out more. To me, the DISCO Season 2 TOS-style worked fine, and we barely seen much of those that season. The SNW uniforms give me a Kelvin vibe.

Also not a fan of having a Noonien-Singh on the Enterprise before Khan. Like they are bringing in Uhura, M'Benga, and Chapel. But I do think it would be a neat in-joke if Rebecca Romijn played both characters. I also wish more of "The Cage" characters were in the cast.

Although Khan's name wasn't hyphenated. It was Khan Noonien Singh. This could be their way out. It's a reference without being a familial relation, like Dr. Noonien Soong.

I always assumed Noonien was a middle name, but I'm drawing the opposite conclusion; presumably they've hyphenated Noonien-Singh to make clear the link between the two characters. If it were just Singh, it wouldn't work precisely because it's too common a Sikh name.

Cadet Uhura and Kahn’s great x 5 granddaughter…FFS. I mean…really.

"I relieve you, Lt. Noonien-Singh".
"Thank you, Ensign Hitler".

I just hope they do there own thing. Tell there own stories .. Not reliy on Tos like a crutch.

Also.. Where's that short trek Indian woman? I liked her!

I would be so incredibly happy if it was just a random name, unconnected to Khan or a derivation of Arik Soong's ancestry.
That was my thinking - could it be an error on the promo stuff and actually be referencing Soong. Always strangley bothered me how similar the names were between Khan and Soong, almost as if there was potentially meant to be a connection

So....
The Good:
I'm really, really happy about Hemmer! I was worried Spock would be the only alien and now we even get an Andorian/Aenar. It's also cool that a blind character is played by a legally blind actor.
Also really glad that we'll have M'Benga instead of Boyce. I hate Boyce. Though it was pretty clear from that leaked casting call that it would be M'Benga.
Hell yes to Uhura, though again, it was obvious that she'd be there.
Peck looks a lot less horrible than he did in the Discovery finale and they toned down the bright yellow they used for command.

The Neutral:
I don't care about a possible Khan-relative either way (also who says she's a descendant of Khan himself? She might be a descendant of his third cousin twice removed or something like that) I'll just see what the character is like.
So the nurse character is literally Chapel. I just hope they'll find good ways to use her and let her be a character in her own right instead of just a satellite to M'Benga.

The Bad:
The uniforms in general are not as good looking as the ones the Enterprise crew wore in Disc. And....oi vey...that fugly bright blue on M'Benga...when will they ever learn that nobody looks good in that colour?
I liked Una's curly hair from Disc better.

Well, in a round-about way, there was an established canonical connection.

Soong's ancestor was heavily involved with the "Augments" in ENT, who were also Khan-era genetically engineered supermen that caused the Klingons to lose their ridges.

It was a dark time in the franchise...

I presume M'Benga is the junior filling in until Piper arrives as the new CMO. It wouldn't make much sense otherwise.

And then he becomes second or third in the line of medical authority once Piper and McCoy join the ship, at times behind Chapel.

It did cross my mind to reference that.

My memory could be off but I thought he stole embryos and bred the ones in Ent?

As I say, the names were always just very very closely aligned

He does. That's why I mentioned Piper first. But M'Benga clearly serves under one or both.
