Not sure a defense is really called for here, but I was taking a portrait oriented still shot of the display case with the sheilds deployed from that vantage point (which I also posted) when they unexpectedly - to me - started to retract. There was a lot of glare due to reflected light, so my focus was on trying to get a shot that showed the entire case, with the "front view" of the Enterprise depicted on the outside of the shield as clearly as possible. By the time I was able to change to video mode, they were already most of the way up. But then after a few moments they were lowered again, and I was able to take video of that. It all happened rather quickly, and I did not have a lot of time to consider composition. Even if I had more time, I'm not sure I would have considered how it might look on a typical computer monitor, but anyway it looks just fine when I watch it on my phone. Which is probably what most people who take vertical videos think, that 5 year old and increasingly out of touch meme notwithstanding.
By the way, Dr. Weitekamp told me that these sheilds were only temporary, and that the ultimate plan will be to apply a film to the windows on that side of the museum that would accomplish the same objective.
