SMG to star in Buffy sequel series from Chloé Zhao

This show ended for me before even its last season. The same thing happened with the Angel. It was good up until its last season. I don't think I need anymore. I feel like it's complete. I feel the same way about Highlander after watching the TV show. I don't really need anymore.

It's maybe not great timing, bringing Buffy back at a point where people's interest in quippy Whedonesque dialogue is at an all-time low. They could just give this a different style, but what made Buffy stand out in the first place was its wit and the strength of the writing overall.

Yeah, I shouldn't have said that like it's an objective fact. I haven't done a survey, or seen any polls.

But the impression I get from people I talk to, sites I visit, and videos I watch is that audiences are getting tired of quips, subverted expectations, bathos etc. undermining a story's sincerity and credibility after so many years of self-aware jokey superhero movies.

It was very 90s that knew its pop culture very well. Translating it for the modern time would be interesting. But I don't see any reason for doing that. It's like the reboot of Charmed. Why? I'd rather see something new.

You don't have to watch it then

It's entirely possible the show won't have that, or will be a lot less than the original did.

I tried introducing my teenagers to Buffy this past year and they didn't like it precisely because there were so many 90s references and so much dated slang they humor fell flat.

It's like remaking Friends. Some shows are of their time period.

There've been at least three think pieces on this I've come across in the last few months. Millennial Snark is cringe to many late Gen Zers.
