Hey, was I right that it would only take one punch for Clark to win tonight?

As far as I'm concerned, we didn't get Superman tonight. We got CGI Superman and Welling close-ups because he was an absolute prima donna.

-The Good...all things Lex. I don't know how I feel about him losing his memory. I would assume he regained it to some degree because he did become president. But Rosenbaum rocked it once again.

-Tess...about the only other character actually trying tonight.

-Although the Jimmy/Henry thing is ridiculous it was nice to see Aaron Ashmore again.

-Chloe slapping the ring out of Lois's hand was definitely an LOL moment.

is there a legal reason they did not show welling in the the full suit beyond the cheap cgi? I never watch this show. John williams score of course blew away smallvilles cheap score. lol
I'd say it was probably a financial reason, not a legal reason.

Fashioning a high-quality Superman costume that was going to be seen on screen for a total of five minutes wouldn't be cost effective.

I can understand why they didn't fully show Welling in the costume. Obviously it was showing a bit of respect to Gough and Miller's 'No Tights, Not Flights' rule. As for the CGI complaints...Its a tv show, with a limited budget and if you didn't notice, most of the Superman Returns flights scenes are CGI. In fact its really clear when you see Superman fly over the Ocean, its like Brandon Routh has been green screened and then layered with CGI to blend with the landscape.

WB really pushed the budget out for SFX in this finale. That is something you won't get for a lot of other shows. In Lost, for instance, not once did you see the Man In Black turn into the Smoke Monster (even Jimmy Kimmel managed to get a decent enough CGI Smokey/MIB transformation in a joke sketch).

My only complaint is that the Darkseid fight was weak. But I can accept that because Smallville is aimed at a wide audience and not just hardcore comic fans. And despite being a fan of the comics, I went into Smallville not expecting it to be 100% true to every classical Superman detail. And thats why i've enjoyed it so much, despite the constant 'percieved' screwiness about Clark not Flying or wearing the Superman suit.

The ending was the best that they could do. It tied directly into the Superman mythos and even gave an original character like Chloe a satisfactory and meaningful conclusion, with her and Oliver having a Child. It was a really awesome moment for them to play out the final few minutes of the show with two of John Williams' themes for the Original movies and the movie like Credits.

I'll give it a 9/10

So, to save the planet, all he needed to do was punch the bad guy and have the ability to fly? Why didn't Kara stick around and just take care of this one, let Clark take the NEXT bad guy?

Or was this the Kryptonian version of his driver's test, and had to prove he could fly unassisted, and parallel park? ;)

Wait...can someone explain the comic book? I mean it would make sense if it were called Superman...but it was called Smallville. Plus...why didn't Oliver get to be in that final scene with Chloe?
Why is there a comic about Clark's life? His secret doesn't appear to be out. Or was there some sort of framing narrative I missed that placed Chloe and her son outside of continuity?

After a fair amount of pondering, I gave this a 'Clark Kent'.

I really wanted this final ep to be really great, but I knew that ultimately, the expectation would prove to be greater than the event. Only a few things saved it from me voting 'Kal' or 'Bizarro', because truthfully, it wasn't that great.

The biggest negative was Clark's floundering around while Apokolips came closer and closer to Earth. It was lame and ridiculous, and IMO, seriously hindered the story.

But hey, we finally got Supes, even if it was just a CGI. For some reason, I was able to accept it easier with the JW music.

All in all, it could've been so much more. Then again, so too, could the entire season.

So could the whole show, heck it could be mythos and classic Superman heavy as Superman: Doomsday, but the show wouldn't have lasted 3 seasons, let alone 10

I had a problem with that as well... It was like real-life intruding on the narrative. I mean, how in the name of hell can you have a comic book about him revealing who Supes is if no one is supposed to know that Clark is Supes?

:wtf:

The scene was cute... It just didn't make any sense.

He doesn't want to be branded as superman, but he'll let himself be branded as a marvel character...

Gave the finale a Clark Kent too

Really unsatisfying finale

-One hour of wasted potential

-Darkseid's minions taken out by just some arrows

-Darkseid's defeat

-Apokolips just being pushed away. Not a single troop from Darkseid's army? I guess them flying would have been too much

-CGI superman

-Last minute retcon of Lex and all his memories. But Lex has lost his memories in the past and somehow regained a shred of it.

It would have been funny if CGI Superman had thrown the planet and it was announced that he saved Earth but destroyed Vulcan in the process...

Re: So did Clark put on the suit and fly? (Smallville SPOILERS)

Think everything but Clark was CGI and with the lighting it made him look CGI too, but not sure.
