Smallville - is it worth watching

^Whoooaaah, no. Some of us hated Lana from the first moment we saw her and her stupid Kryptonite necklace of stupidity.

Then we spent the next six years or so wondering if Clark was actually supposed to be gay.

I'm surprised the mods haven't sent this to the SF/F forum - that's where most Smallville threads reside, and it'd be nice to have consistency there.

@ OP: By the end of S3, I'd had enough of the show, as it had significantly departed in tone and promise from anything near a realistic - or even emotionally believable - depiction of a contemporary Superman's origins.

While many episodes are entirely watchable, I think that the following episodes are the watchable and good ones. Asterisks denote my personal choices for the cream of the crop:

Season 1

1. Pilot*
4. X-RAY* X-Ray vision discovered.
6. HOURGLASS
10. SHIMMER
11. HUG* First-season best.
14. ZERO No Kryptonite-freak.
20. OBSCURA
21. TEMPEST No Kryptonite-freak. S1 finale.

Season 2

2.1 VORTEX No Kryptonite-freak.
2.8 LINEAGE* Series' second-best. No Kryptonite-freak.
2.9 RYAN
2.12 INSURGENCE No Kryptonite-freak.
2.16 FEVER No Kryptonite-freak.
2.17 ROSETTA* No Kryptonite-freak. Christopher Reeve cameos.
2.18 VISITOR*
2.22 CALLING
2.23 EXODUS*

Season 3

3.1 EXILE/3.2 PHEONIX No Kryptonite-freak.
3.3 EXTINCTION
3.4 SLUMBER
3.8 SHATTERED No Kryptonite-freak.
3.13 VELOCITY
3.19 MEMORIA* Series' best. No Kryptonite-freak.

Lana is almost completely without any redeeming qualities whatever (it baffles me that Clark could be in love with this annoying, nagging, all-about-me, self-involved, hypocritical whiner) and my suggestion is that you fast forward through pretty much every single one of her scenes...with the possible exception of a few involving her and Lex.

Remove Lana from this series post, oh, Season 4 or so and you make this series 100x better.

Yes, if only to watch Lex and Lionel Luthor who are two of my favorite all time TV characters ever. Brilliant stuff from them both....

God, I hate this show. Smallville is horrible. If you want to watch Superman that badly just rewatch the first two movies again and save yourself the time.

Not surprisingly I 100% disagree. I always have and always will like Lana better as she loves CLARK, not Superman, unlike Lois who always falls for Superman, not Clark.

Nah, boring cheesefests.

Except Lois did fall for Clark. Or have you not watched that season 8 you're planning on buying on DVD?

And no-one dislikes Lana for loving Clark. They hate her because they think she's insufferable and that her stories tend to drag the show down.

Also, learn how to edit please.

That'll be Smallville. Bad guy introduced, Lana and Clark angst, Clark beats bad guy. At the end of each episode fans keep repeating how Chloe is the best thing ever. Repeat for god knows how long. The actor that plays Lex and the actress that plays Lana have already moved on from the show so that tells you how past the expiration date this show is.

Pretty much. She just so vapid and her stories and presence just slows the show down to a stand still so much that the tempertature of it would have to reach absolute 0 in-order for things to start moving again.

I didn't find her the least bit inetersting and was ready to blow out my own brains whenever her and Clark had a talk in the Barness of Mopeitude.

I don't care that she likes Clark, hell the character herself isn't all that bad, the show just focused on her a bit too much and Kreuk's acting was just so bland and vapid it was insufferable.

That Lana was self-involved, bitchy, little slut is fine, but when she stood there and got all emotional with all of the acting range of Keanu Reeves on 500mg of Xanax it got a bit tedious.

the Barness of Mopeitude.

:guffaw:

Exactly. As soon as I see her coming up those stairs, my thumb immediately positions itself over the FF button on the remote.

It's a reflex now.

Because nothing good for Clark...OR for the show as a whole, comes out of anything that happens in the..what did you call it? "Barness of Mopetitude".

I didn't mind her until halfway through S3. IMO, after all she went through in the S2 finale/S3 premiere, she deserved to know what was going on. When Clark wouldn't tell her out of fear for her own safety, fine. But for him to then try to get with her anyways, and then get all pissy when she quite reasonably decided to spend a somewhere elsewhere, really sabotaged her character. We identify with Clark because he's the main character, future Superman, and it isn't easy to be him and all, but seen from her perspective, he's just as bad as she is by that point.

Trekker, thought the Keanu Reeves on 500mg of Xanax was funnier.

^She is, as I've said, the worst Mary Sue in the history of television. It is almost as if Smallville is someone lonely teenage girl's Superman fan fiction. If it was, I'd feel sorry for the girl writing it.

It was pretty good, but after awhile it started to drag, especially the Lana/Clark Storyline.
I guess next season Clark is going to finally man up and stop being a sensitive wimp, but then again he will have to deal with the Wonder Twins so it might totally suck next season.

She hasn't fallen for Clark. She may like him but she hasn't fallen for him and she won't ever do anything substantial about it cause no matter how you slice it in every incarnation Lois falls for SUPERMAN, not Clark. She'll drop Clark like a bad habit in a heartbeat even if they kinda sorta start something. Lois falls for Superman. Plain, pure and simple

^ Please, rewatch the DVDs, particularly the episode called 'Comitted'. I may have problems with that episode and how that moment was built up to, but there's no denying it's there. Plus a ton more scenes like it in the first half of the season.
