Small Universe Syndrome

It's possible that Sisko might have been in command of one particular space station in the Utopia Planitia complex of space stations.

I don't think they ever detailed what Sisko was doing at U.P. until he brought the Defiant to DS9 in "The Search". But I think it's fair to assume that, after serving as an XO, Lt. Cmdr. Sisko had to have had some kind of supervisory position, either over the Defiant class project or some other subdivision of the Fleet Yards operations.

"So, Miles, what's happening? Yeah... We need to talk about your L-CARS reports. Did you get that memo? It's just, we're putting new coversheets on all the L-CARS reports before they go out now. So if you could go ahead and try to remember to do that from now on, that'd be great..."

What happened to getting back on course?

If that's directed to me, I don't understand the question...
It was directed at all posters who are rehashing the Janeway argument. This is supposed to be about small universe syndrome, like Riker showing up in Voyager for no reason whatsoever.
That was OK, but a bigger problem is having Maurie Ginsberg gratuitously show up in every other chapter in TrekLit these days. There are many other hippies on the path to dentistry from which to choose.

I somewhat see people's arguments here, I can understand a character from the canon trek's appearing can seem somewhat forced and/or awkward. Then again, I get what the writers of the books are saying, an appearance by, or a mention of Picard may have a better chance of making the book sell and connecting the story to the franchise then nothing at all. It's a double edged sword in my opinion, or better yet 'you're damned if you do, and you're damned if you don't'
