Slideshows for End Credits

Part of what made Star Trek (TOS) so iconic in our pop-culture was the constant exposure to classic scenes from the episodes in the end credits.

'The Green Chick' is such a ST cliche because Vina got a shot at the end of every show. Balock Puppet Head is burned into countless brains of scared little kids all around the world. The Gorn wouldn't be half the star he is today without the mind controlling familarity of those pictures under the names of all those people'n'stuff at the end. We were brainwashed into digging Star Trek!

Next Generation and the rest all had receding stars under the end credits. How boring! What if they had the origininal style slideshow of greatest hits flashing by? What actual frames of said show would you pick to represent the most memorable moments in review?

To get the ball rolling, off the top of my head...

TNG : 'Locutus of Borg laser eye', 'Judge Q on his thrown','Conspiracy Remmick neck bulge'.

DS9 : 'Wormhole opening','The Sisko in ProphetVision','Quark&Odo sparring!'.

VOY : 'Caretaker Array exploding','Original First officer exploding','7of9 and her 'array''.

ENT : 'Enterprise launching from space dock','EVA suits','T'Pol's 'array''.

What shots do you think would have made classic clips for these shows?

Interesting idea. Perhaps somebody here could actually take a stab at creating such closing credits.

That would have been great. I think the cool uptempo music and slide show are examples of some of the fun elements that I missed a bit in later Treks. Take the SFX on the original series. All those whirrs and clanks and such on the bridge...people toggle switches with a TOK and a BEEP and a BOOP...when they fire phasers, there's that indescribable series of sounds that I'd put a spelling to if I could. Then there's the vivid bright colors of uniforms, lights, everything...the dramatic music cues that don't care if they call attention to themselves. I love my TNG, but sorry, the decor and color scheme and engine white noise and mild computer sound effects made being on that bridge feel like the waiting room at a doctor's office by comparison.

My favorite slides were the ones that weren't actually from the show! Makeup and effects tests, outtakes, props out of context...things we'd never get to see otherwise! A reminder that it's just a TV show and one that does not take itself too seriously, and yet simultaneously a collection of treasures for the real fans...imagine if, say, a couple of quick backstage photos had been taken of each of the ships built for the Wolf 359 debris field, or any cool prop or makeup associated with that particular episode were shown in detail...or we see twelve actors in Klingon makeup at a table, eating lunch together! Or a snapshot from Hawking's visit to the sets! TNG, DS9 and Voyager just never would have done anything like this (although the DS9 writers wanted a slideshow for the end credits of "Trials and Tribble-ations"), and I, for one, would have loved it if they had.

A slide show ending for "Tribbilations" would have been priceless! But Berman wouldn't even let them spice up the music. B-5 woulda done it.

Shot of Kirk/Spock Sisko/Dax in corridor eavesdropping mashup.
Shot of K-7, Ent, and D-5 Klingon ship.
Worf in his fur trappers hat (Sorry Michael).
Sisko sucking up to Kirk on the bridge.
Dax and her red mini, boots, and bee-hive.
Julian and Miles with 'their flaps open' in the turbo with Lt. Hottie.

Oh, too many good choices...

I'd have loved that. Most the TV shows during the 70's and the early 80's did it too. The variation for The A-Team was to replay scenes, then pause the action and overlay with credits. They should bring that back with all modern television. Sadly most can't even be arsed to come up with proper opening titles. No wonder we've from gone from 52 minutes in an hour to less than 40 minutes!

I once attempted something for ENT but didn't finish it off.

The feeling that had it continued, it would've gone further down the road finally morphing into original Star Trek.

I remember Futurama's Where No Fan Has Gone Before had TOS-style end credits. The last shot is of Kiff done up to look like the Balok puppet.

STIV The Voyage Home was the only movie to use a slideshow of clips in the end credits. I wonder where Leonard Nomoy got that idea...
TSFS and TVH were the TOSiet of the movies. Hmmm, a new closing for Search for Spock anyone?

That was f'ing awesome cool!

No-one would have seen them on broadcast because they would have been squashed, squeezed and sped up to oblivion.

TV's changed since the 1960s. Now it's very rare for a TV channel to leave the credits unmolested - the work that goes into credits is to try and keep them legible and hang the rest.

I hate the bombardment of advertising on commercial tv. How they step all over the shows is so distracting. I didn't even know Enterprise had an instrumental end theme, UPN shrunk, twisted and blasted over it. So I seek unmolested versions of Trek on dvd. There's plenty of undisturbed credit role here to enjoy.

Q trumpeting to Picard and Riker on the bridge;Deja Q:p
"Where there'll be nae tribble at all!" Laugh-fest bridge; Tw/T:lol:
Promenade Casino crew walk; Bada-bing:cool:
Porthos making a 'cheese log';gag reel:vulcan:
Janeway as Arachnia!

Can anyone throw up some screen grabs to illustrate what I mean? -I'm such a noob ya know.

- Riker wearing the Angel One costume
- Worf smashing Alan-A-Dale's lute
- Crusher drinking something out of Riker's skull
- Wesley as a 21-year old He-Man.
- The screen "shattering" in "Frame Of Mind"
- Yar throwing Data on her bed.
- Barclay getting bitten by the transporter worms.

and finally....

- Riker looking up and saying "You're A Dead Man Apgar.....A DEAD MAN!"

Riker's SKULL? What's cooking up there? Oh yeah, celular peptide smoothy. Yum. That would make a great clip. -With mint frosting!

You know, this is a great point. It's a shame that credits have been marginalized by advertising. Just one more thing that takes a little joy out of good ole TV.

Between the credits being squashed on one side of the TV screen and an annoying person talking over the end credit music, the whole thing is just a mess.

Picard as "Locutus" (natch)
Picard as Robin Hood
Riker frozen in the Drug dealer planet/addict planet episode
Picard with a handfull of "goo" from all good things
The Tasha Yar eulogy/ceremony
Tomaluk, in anything

Obviously, all DS9 credits have to end with a shot of Morn.

Which brings a good point. In TOS producer Bob Justman, or was it Solow, got the final shot, usually with 'evil' Balok. A little joke amongst the cast and crew.

What shot would Rick Berman merit on shows he produced; TNG, DS9,VOY,and ENT. Hmmm? -Could get nasty here.

I'll start benevelently with the Next Gen which Rick did pretty good.

TNG The Traveler phasing in and out (holding Wesleys hand) as a metaphor for Gene and Ricks relationship.

DS9 Kai Opaka in Prophet-vision. She was always there, but mostly stayed out of the Siskos hair (when he had it).

VOY 7of9 and Borg Queen beauty promo shot. B&B's ultimate raping of what we once loved.

ENT Archer with Porthos begging for cheese on his lap. B&B's self admiration glee club meeting.

Ah, sorry. Those came out nastier than I planned. But I saw the opening and ran with it. :p
