Sleepy Hollow opening

The women at the beginning of the Sleepy Hollow opening credits, the one lifting her arms, is that Katrina?

 $$$$ ????

The characters did refer to Katrina during this week's show and she has been an integral part of the first 2 seasons.

After all, don't we still see the headless horseman in the credits too? :vulcan:

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one confused by them not changing the credits. With both Katrina and Abraham gone, I would have expected them to change them to reflect that. They could have just replaced all of the footage of Katrina and Abraham's horse with Pandora, her box, and the tree thing.

That is what I was expecting by now.

I thought so. Why haven't they removed her?

Because the titles are telling the backstory symbolically. Katrina's magic was responsible for suspending Ichabod in time. A lot of what's in the titles -- Katrina's spell, the city's growth over the centuries, the Horseman -- is in the past now, but it's still part of the setup for where we are now, so it makes sense to include it in the titles.

I can understand that, but a lot of shows do change to reflect what's happening now, rather than what happened in previous seasons.

They have changed by inserting the new cast members. The backstory images are still relevant in explaining the basic premise, that Crane was suspended in time through magic and awakened to fight demons. Lots of series title sequences are about retelling the origin story rather than reflecting the present. And you can't see Katrina's face in the shot anyway.

Besides, SH's title sequence is one of the few full-length main-title sequences in TV today, and even rarer in being a specially created sequence rather than a montage of episode clips. They put a lot of investment in those images and they're an important part of the show's character. Why would they want to lose them?

I have to admit, I didn't really think of them as explaining the backstory. I thought of them as just kind of reflecting the themes more than anything specific like that.

^It's sort of a mix of both backstory and theme, because it's symbolic. Magic, time displacement, demonic forces, creepy forests, bunch of actors. That about sums it up.
