It doesn't make Sisko evil. The problem with all those "Bad Future" episodes in long running media is that they might, in the end, turn out a less horrible place to live in than the world shaped by the writers.
Case in point X-Men how many "bad futures" have they averted and how many times have they set the timeline "right' only to (in the supposedly preferable timeline) have most of their numbers and students killed, half of the remaining ones turning evil and the other half becoming completely broken individuals?
I can relate my home died with my mother too when I was in my very late teens. Not much fun since then and I can say I also never quite recovered.

Is SG1 evil? All their alternate universe episodes strongly suggest that odds are, their actions would have caused the destruction of Earth. We happen to reside in the universe where they had the pure dumb luck they needed to avert catastrophe.

Can I ask you something, do you have children yourself now? When I lost my dad last year, not only did the close relationship I have with my little boy make it a lot easier to handle, the feeling of generational continuity made it much easier to accept the cycle of life.
Excuse semi-offtopic but speaking about father/son relationships, I saw Trek Nation tonight for the first time, made me cry...

I agree, it sells Jake short, and I doubt the character would be this clingy. Sadly after that episode the character of Jake became irrelevant to DS9's war stories.
All in all, they used Nog more often than they did Jake, which seems odd.

Yeah, it's counter productive to the kind of blood thirsty stories they wanted to tell. There was no room for positive characters who were not intertwine in their war stories.
Nog was used to form, but holy wow what were the writers thinking when they arbitrarily made Rom a genius and a babe magnet??? OH and made him GRAND NAGUS??? My head is about to explode. It seems the writers were channeling themselves into Rom. What they wish they could be.

Forget about that. How about turning Ferenginar into a federation planet? Talk about iconoclastic? In a few years you won't be able to tell it apart from Earth, except for the rain and the ugly people that is....
