"Sins of the Father" Line-by-Line

I gotta put this in:

(Kurn reluctantly crosses his arms to Worf and turns his back. After a moment, Picard and Worf walk out of the Great Hall)

Yee ha!!

Please stand by. There will be a brief delay in the preparation for the next line-by-line thread. I will return with an explanation...

Hi folks!

Sorry for the delay. For anyone who might be interested, the reason I have been scarce is that yesterday at 6:25 pm Eastern my wife and I welcomed our third child (a beautiful baby boy) into the world! Both mother and baby are doing well.

Now that I have a few moments to spare, stand by and I'll get things ready to go for the next thread!

Boldly going forward...

In my absence, LeadHead has been kind enough to compile the list of participants in this thread, which I have numbered and have as followed:

1. CoveTom
2. LeadHead
3. JanewayRulz!
4. leandar
5. Vulcan Princess
6. Enterprise1981
7. omegadir
8. Captain Ice
9. Vanyel
10. Ziz
11. Gary Mitchell

Those names should be in the order in which each person first posted to the thread. No "weight" is given for who posted more or less often.

(If anyone has been inadvertently left off the list of participants, please let me know and I'll try to make it up on the next go-around.)

I then used a random number generator -- www.random.org, to be specific -- and had it pick a number between 1 and 11. This is completely and totally random. There is no favoritism of any kind shown.

And the winner is...

*drumroll*

leandar!

Congratulations, leandar!

So, leandar, the next move is yours. Would you like to select the next episode we are going to do line-by-line? You are free to select the next episode or pass and I will re-run the randomization. You can pick any episode from any of the Trek series that you like. For reference, the ones we've done so far, ordered by series, are:

Where No Man Has Gone Before (TOS)
The Man Trap (TOS)
The Menagerie (TOS)
Measure of a Man (TNG)
Yesterday's Enterprise (TNG)
Peak Performance (TNG)
The First Duty (TNG)
The Best of Both Worlds (TNG)
Sins of the Father (TNG)
The Visitor (DS9)
Trials and Tribble-ations (DS9)
The Way of the Warrior (DS9)
Bride of Chaotica (VOY)
Dark Frontier (VOY)
Scorpion (VOY)
Counterpoint (VOY)

Once a new episode has been chosen, I will fire up the next line-by-line thread in the appropriate forum and post the link here.

First off, I have to say: CoveTom..... You made us wait for a new thread just so you could be with your wife while she has your baby?! What you thinking?!?!

No, just kidding. I'll then be the first on the board, at least here, to offer you profound congratulations and hope and pray that the child has a long, wonderful life!

I've got a few ideas in mind, but I need a consultation: We've done several two parters, what about three parters? Or arcs of several episodes? What say you on that, boss? :)

Congratulations CoveTom! However I insist that at least part of the reading education you will provide be these line by line threads. :)

Thanks for the congrats, folks! Everyone is doing fine so far, except for being -really- tired. :)

Regarding "multi-part" episodes, my feeling is basically this... If it has a "To Be Continued" and a "Last time on [insert series name]", then the multiple episodes actually constitute parts of one single episode. But if not, if the episodes are just part of an arc, then they should stand alone. At least for purposes of these threads.

So, for example, the three-part Homecoming/Circle/Siege story from DS9 would be a single thread as one complete episode. But the six part war arc from season six that runs from "A Time to Stand" through "Sacrifice of Angels" would be done as six separate episodes. Otherwise, at least for DS9 and part of Enterprise, we'd end up having 200 page threads that span a dozen episodes a piece.

Does that make sense? Anyone have alternative suggestions?

I think that's the sane way to do it. The Occupation of DS9, Final Chapter and Xindi Arcs would be way too much for a single thread. That being said, I think it would be a good idea to attempt them in back to back threads at some point if that were possible.

Yeah, me too. I think that would be all kinds of cool!

That being said, I'll keep things simple for now and go with another idea. Trek wise, CoveTom, take me home. Let's do "Journey to Babel."
