Since launching 20 years ago, what's your favorite PlayStation memory?

With PlayStation having launched 20 years ago in December 94, what's your favorite serious or humorous memory of PS in the last 20 years, be it something very funny happening while you were going to buy a game, or while you were playing one, or something you saw happen to someone else. It doesn't matter if you weren't even born in, or before 1994.

Re: Since launching 20 years ago, what's your favorite PlayStation mem

Playstation 2 was the first console that came out after I had a job. So I stayed up all night and went to the midnight launch (well, in Best Buy's case it was just early morning, like 7:00 am). I ended up buying the system a handful of games and the four player adapter (I have no idea why, I never used the damn thing). All in all I spent at least 800 dollars that day, something I would never dare do today, yikes!

Anyways, because of all that, PS2 will always hold a special place in my heart and I have fond memories of it.

Metal Gear Solid: "It's just a box! ...huh?" <squeeze> <squeeze> <squeeze> <squeeze> <squeeze> <crack>

I was on the other side of that launch, working for Sears in the electronics dept., where our store was accidentally shorted on dozens of PS2 systems (we ended up getting only 3 for the launch). Let us just say my experiences that day were far less pleasant, and far more mobbish and fist-fighty.

I remember getting my PS2 as a HS graduation present. It's an older model fat one and it still works. Only had to replace the controller and the AV cords. Started out with Draken: The Ancients Gates and Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance for it and have branched out since then. Haven't regretted it :).

As for Playstation, finally got a PS3 and like it so far. Looking forward to more time playing both it and my PS2.

I'll probably move up to a PS3 when the PS5 comes out. I'm usually about two generations behind.

My favorite memory is when Sony released their 20th anniversary edition PS4, limited it to roughly 13k units world-wide and decided to not put it up for sale in my country. Great times.

No, I'm not salty at all.

The current PSN outage here in the States. Got Destiny (can't play it), have had Dragon Age: Inquisition for a while but we can't play it because it says the DLC is missing due to PSN being down (my wife is fuming). Can't patch my son's Little Big Planet 3.

It's still down because of the Sony hacks?

Do they have any idea when it will be back up?

Still down and there's no ETA that I'm aware of for it to be back up.

With all this trouble Sony has been having lately, I hope they seriously rethink putting all their eggs into the streaming basket.

Metal Gear Solid: "It's just a box! ...huh?" <squeeze> <squeeze> <squeeze> <squeeze> <squeeze> <crack>

Me too! That, Cool Boarders, Grand Turismo, WWF In Your House and Crash Bandicoot.

I think I love y-, I mean, yeah, those games were awesome! :shifty:

Seriously, though, you just named the most worn out, well used games I had in my collection. You know, the makers of optical media say you can't wear out a CD-ROM just by playing it over and over again. To this day, I insist they're wrong about that.

Oh yeah. :)

I forgot the Namco Museum games. Just don't bust in on PacMan in the John.

I remember that!

When I got my PS2, I made certain to get the Namco Museum games. I tried to get my niece and nephew into classic games, but they were quickly bored by them. *sigh*

Aww, :(

One of my friend's kids liked Ms. Pac Man.

Namco Museum was boss. :techman:

Re: Since launching 20 years ago, what's your favorite PlayStation mem

I think my favorite memory is of the day a friend of mine and I soldered some additional connections into a PS1 to add... "additional functionality". Yeah. We'll call it that. We got all sorts of "additional functionality" out of it after that. ;)

Re: Since launching 20 years ago, what's your favorite PlayStation mem

I suppose the original PS1 or PSX as I always think of it has my fondest memories just due to my age and circumstances at the time.

My friends and I were into Mortal Kombat at the arcade so needless to say we were pretty stoked to play MK3 on the Playstation and did so all night long.

Along with that, blasting the Playstation through the stereo and having my roommate's sleepy girlfriend tell us that we were forever banned from ever playing another Liu Kang vs Liu Kang match.

Throwing the controller out of my hands nearly hitting the ceiling when the dogs first crash through the window in Resident Evil. And then subsequently making guests play Resident Evil until the dogs crashed through the window.

I can't remember what method was used to get it to run but the Japanese game Pepsiman was an unforgettable experience.

Oh and beating the black car in Ridge Racer. Had my actual heart pounding when I hit the finish line.

Re: Since launching 20 years ago, what's your favorite PlayStation mem

Remembered another one: Psycho Mantis using his telekinetic powers to move my controller across the floor.

Re: Since launching 20 years ago, what's your favorite PlayStation mem

Raise your hand if you've beat Psycho Mantis without the aid of controller two!

I've done it once. It took me almost an hour.
