Sim's "genetic memory"

In Similitude, Trip was cloned and Sim gained his memories as he aged. How is that possible? One possibility is that there was some sort of telepathy involved, but that seems unlikely. After all, Trip was human and humans aren't telepathic. Another possibility is that there was some kind of Trill symbiont-like creature inside Sim that gave him Trip's memories. Thoughts?

IIRC, Phlox said there are species that pass knowledge and memories to their young and that it was possible the lyssarian larva had similar capabilities.

There is also some evidence that memory has a genetic component, and who knows how those larvae work?
