Sims 2 to Sim 3 - Should I Make the Move?

I currently have both the Mac and PC versions of Sims 2 fully loaded with practically all of EA's highway robbing expansion packs, stuff packs and a shit-ton of user-created add-ons. I like it for what it is, though some of what I've seen of TS3 seems intriguing.

What I'm wondering is if there is enough there already to justify making the move now, or should I wait for more content. Are the new features really a leap forward (as was the case with TS1->TS2) or just a few more bells and whistles? And yes, I have done some research, but I'm more interested in users' experiences than specs.

Is this the wrong forum for this question?

From what I have heard about 3, they got rid of a lot of the stupid micromanagement--for instance, your Sims don't randomly get themselves killed doing things they should know not to do. Also, you can control anyone in the game, not just a particular family. You can seamlessly move from person to person. In essence, it simulates the whole town, and you can move all over it, watching people's lives or controlling them.

It sounds cool but I don't have a good enough PC to run it, so I can't tell you myself. I know I found the micromanagement aspects tedious, and much prefer the idea of Sims who can take care of themselves, and you just interfere when it suits you.

^That does sound appealing and yes, the micromanagement can be very :brickwall:.

I don't know. I had all the S2 packs and stuff too. I'm not happy with the look of S3. The characters look too cartoony in S3, although I only have the original S3, none of the packs or user-created for it. The characters in S2 could look "sexy" but I haven't been able to make any in S3 that are anything better than average.

I was very underwhelmed with the Sims 3. I played it for maybe a week and then got bored.
