Gene Roddenberry would be turning pea green with envy, if he knew what kind of business J.J. Abrams was capable of doing with the original series STAR TREK characters. This is how TOS was always meant to be and I'm a huge fan of it!

Plus I so much better like nuSulu's swordplay than old Sulu's...

Star Trek '09 - Yes
Star Trek Into Darkness - No

Maybe we are headed for better odd numbered movies in the NuTrek series and weaker even numbered ones. We'll see how that pans out.

To be fair the old trek had some major clunkers too, TMP for one, the slow motion picture or how to slow the action down to a halt in the middle of an "action" movie.

I agree with that, but messing with Khan was an issue for me.

People overthink why they should or should not like or love something based on previous experiences in the franchise and comparing it with what came before and blablablablablabla.

I judge by what I see. What I saw was fun, and hugely entertaining. So, YES. End of story.

I do like reboots:

Casino Royale, Batman Begins, and Star Trek have all been great.

I just don't want to see certain things rebooted, such as Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Jaws or The Godfather.

Eventually, I might be arm-twisted into enjoying a...(ugh!!!! it pains me just to type it...) Star Wars reboot, but I'll probably have to be dragged in kicking and screaming.

Neeewwwww (aka No). I like the worldbuilding and continuing history that sequels bring. All that work the creators put into their original fiction and someone comes along and rehashes it for moneys.

Not that I don't watch them, and try to enjoy them. It just takes a bit of suspending of memory.

Then again, if a movie wasn't as good the first time, maybe a reboot is necessary.

Hopefully this isn't considered spam, despite the fact that it duplicates a topic elsewhere on the board. Doing that is kind of the point.

No problem with this being here.

And the answer to your question is a resounding "YES".

:techman:

In genera, not a big fan, but the reboots are growing on me. Too many gimmicks and cliches. Hyperactive characters. Some of the premises seem crazy.

But on the plus side;

They're free of the repressed attitude of the older series.

Scotty is funny, I like that.

Zach Quinto as Spock is dead on..

They're going way out and showing Kirk being the male-whore that he was - (threesomes, hitting on every body etc)

With this new attitude, they're more likely to to introduce and tackle ideas the older shows avoided.

True, the prime universe shows and movies missed their chances (in the last few years), so it deserved a reboot.

I like Star Trek (2009).

I love Star Trek Into Darkness (2013).

So, yes.

Basically how I feel as well. Eric Bana's Nero being a mostly uninteresting villain is the biggest problem I have with the first one, which I felt Khan and Admiral Marcus did a good job of rectifying for the sequel.

Too general a question. Why not split it up into both? I liked the first one but hated the second one so I guess I'll have to answer "No" in the poll.

This poll was set up the other day in the forum devoted to the Abrams Star Trek movies.

It's been suggested that the results might be "skewed" based upon the predispositions of folks who visit that forum.

It was further suggested, as an experiment, that the poll be posted here in the General Trek forum to see if the result would be substantially different.

So, here it is.

Well, the problem with that is that those who voted in the other forum will probably come here to vote too....and those who normally wouldn't have voted in the other forum, read your reason for posting it here, and will possibly go and vote in the other forum also.

What you should have done was post the poll here without any reference at all to the poll in the other forum and you would have gotten "non-skewed" results...but since you let the cat out of the bag, the results here will also be "somewhat" skewed.

I like them as action-adventure movies set in space that make reference to Star Trek.

They're not really Star Trek.

Only we're seeing very similar results in both anyway.

Exactly my point! Knowing the same poll exists in both forums isn't really going to prove anything because the same people will more than likely be voting the same way in both forums.

If I saw this poll without any reference to the other one, I probably would have voted in this one and not the other one since I visit this forum much more than the other.

Yes, they are entertaining.

Fat chicks?

What on Earth are you on about?

He was obviously answering the question asked in the poll. It has nothing to do with your sexist remark about "Fat Chicks".

I have repeatedly asked you stop with the spammy, argumentative, off-topic posts. This time you've earned an infraction. Comments to PM.

You also have to frame what you mean by 'Like'. There's different levels of liking something. I enjoyed the movies, so I answered 'Yes', but they have a ton of problems too that are hard to ignore.

I'd put them more in the 'Decent' category than 'Good'.
