Similarities between Star Trek V and Airplane II

Both of these movies contain a comedy character portrayed by Shatner. Star Trek V is probably funnier than Airplane II but they both have the same goal: To Make you bellylaugh.

Am I right or am I right?

:bolian:

I laughed at a few of the jokes in Star Trek V, but overall I didn't find it very funny.

They are both inferior sequels, I'll give you that.

They also both involve spaceships.

"No tower? Why the HELL aren't I told about these things..."

"Those lights are blinking out of sequence."
"I see."
"What should we do?"
"Make them blink in sequence."

:D

Yeah, Airplane 2 is pretty weak compared to the original. But it's got some very, very funny moments, I think.

ST V, well, not so much. Pretty bad IMHO.

STVTFF may have shit jokes and awful special effects but I think the criticism it comes in for is way too harsh. It's a movie that continues the core tradition of Star Trek, well certainly TOS anyhow, and that's the exploration of the human condition. I think the scenes concerning the internal emotions of the big three are absolutely excellent and I very much wish Shatner had been given free reign to make the movie how he wanted. In my view the TNG movies never recaptured the exploration of human issues the way the TOS movies did (except perhaps TMP).
