Silence falls on the Doctor...

Must be frustrating for him and those who bought tickets. I think I'd like to see him on stage.

Sadly the gamble you take with any live show. You never know though, often the understudies are v good.

Yeah, it happens in live theatre. Especially with long runs. I'm really glad I got to see this back in June. Tennant was fabulous. Tate held her own - not bad for a TV actress. Good direction and solid supporting cast.

TV actress? She's done film and theatre work before, quite a few films I think.

Hmm... let's see, she's done a grand total of nine movies, according to IMDB Pro, two of those released this year, and none of them (with the possible exception of the woeful "Gullivers Travels") could be described as "major motion pictures." On the other hand, her TV credits list is as long as my arm and that's where she's won acclaim and awards. Her "theatre work" to date consists mainly of sketch and stand-up comedy, which she is quite good at. On the other hand, she bombed out of one theatre school and took 4 tries to get admitted to another.

TV actress. Darn good at what she does, though.

ON IMDB I don't see anything big for David Tennant outside of TV prior to him leaving Doctor Who either. HP And the Goblet of Fire, but, that really wasn't that big of a part, and most of the rest of it is TV Movie, TV Mini-Series and TV Series.

Fright Night might change that though.

I get your point Captain, but at what point would you consider her a movie star as it were?

Actually, I was contrasting her stage experience to Tennant's. He's got extensive training and experience in classical theatre & Shakespeare and it shows. She... doesn't.

I saw it in June and then a second time a few weeks ago and Tate had really tightened up her performance. Not up to Tennant's level but noticeably improved.

Good to hear she continued to work on it. That's one very positive thing about long runs - a performance can develop and mature over time. I can't remember how much rehearsal this show got but it's rarely enough these days.

Shakespeare isn't for sissies. :)
