Not sure about some of the poeple on this list. Rose Tyler didn't rock sci fi, IMO, neither did the Transformers chick. I'd have Major Kira on that list before Janeway.

I also think that President Roslin did more for Sci Fi than Number Six.

I'm surprised that Kara Thrace and Rose Tyler were in the top ten, yet Xena wasn't. In fact I wouldn't even list them in the top twenty-five at all. Megan Fox's character didn't even do anything in the first movie other then be a love interest.

Erm, that is debatable. But I think that both characters should be there. And should Starbuck. Not sure where all this hatred for her on this thread comes from?

However - Claire Bennet should definitely not be there, Rose Tyler is not exactly a character that shook SciFi, and it is inexcusable to leave out Kira or Aeryn Sun... 7 of 9 was an more interesting character than many on the list and should probably be there, too.

Is the list supposed to be about high-profile characters, or characters who brought something new and interesting to SciFi? Claire is basically a teenage damsel in distress, only an indestructible one. She gets chased by a bad guy and keeps being a victim, only she heels every time. And BTW she is also despised by a huge number of fans of the show she is on, not for being iconoclastic but for the opposite reason, for being so uninteresting and never developing as a character. I don't mind her, but the writers never really found a way to develop her character in an interesting way.

And that's without counting the Cylons as separate characters - which, of course, they are. That would make it something like 4 as many.

But the list was not just for positive role models. The fact that the BSG characters were so damaged and messed-up was what made them so fascinating. Who says great female characters have to be likable?

Starbuck was a mess, but you couldn't take your eyes off her.

A bunch of editors produced this list? I would have expected wiser choices from them. For example, there would have been no Alias at all if JJ Abrams hadn't been such a big fan of La Femme Nikita. And yet Sydney Bristow made the list but Nikita didn't.

Does La Femme Nikita have science fiction or fantasy aspects, though? Alias may not be overflowing with sci-fi, but it's definitely a strong enough element for Sydney Bristow to be included here from that point of view.

La Femme Nikita was mostly straight-up spy action (like 24 today). But Nikita also had a lot of episodes with traditional SF elements, including telekinesis, clairvoyance, mind control, cloning and artificial intelligence.

Well, there is the first interracial kiss thing.

Oh, and her first name was a plot point of the new movie, although the dialog when you actually learn it goes by quickly and it's easy to miss. (It's the same name she's had in the novelverse for decades though.)

It's Alyson Hannigan. She's a known face these days, and combined with a fairly substantial role on the series----including participation in the first lesbian sex scene on network television, among other things----that one isn't too surprising.

Alias' Rambaldi business surely drove it in to the realm of science fiction, especially with the Zombie episodes and then what happened to Sloane in the end.

On the other hand, should Xena really be in the list ? Are we not making a distinction between Sci-Fi and Fantasy ?
