Sigourney Weaver as Captain Janeway?

Aquehonga

Fleet Captain
Practically & realistically this is shear fantasy. I think Sigourney Weaver would've been difficult & expen$ive to get, nevermind keep.

But what if TPTB&B had gotten past such hurdle$ & cast Sigourney Weaver as Captain Janeway?

How would SW had been in the role? Worse? The same? Not sure? Better?

It certainly would've afforded her numerous opportunities to nuke multi-million dollar installations from orbit.

Y'Know how the first Janeway ran? A couple hours on the set, accepting the limitations of the story and meeting her costars... She ran.

Gotta wonder how long Sigorney could hold out?

Sigourney Weaver would have made a kick-ass Voyager captain. Mulgrew was excellent, but it's hard to say whether Sigourney would have been better or worse.

I can't imagine Sigourney Weaver ever agreeing to be a regular on a network television show (much less a show like Voyager on a network like UPN), so this is a definite fantasy-land hypothetical question. But I'll play.

I think Sigourney would have been terrific. Don't get me wrong, I think Mulgrew was great in the role (and after seeing Bujold in her scenes as Janeway, I thank my lucky stars that they got Kate), but Weaver is one of my favourite actresses, and I'm sure she would have done wonders. Her Janeway probably would have been different than the one we're all familiar with, but the same can be said when looking at any character played by more than one actor. IMO, the particular actor always brings something unique to the role.

How would it be different? Well, we know from Aliens that Weaver can hold her own in an action scene, so we probably would have gotten a lot more of those. I'm sure there'd be other differences as well.

I can't imagine anyone but Mulgrew in the role. The film of Bujold is painful to watch. Weaver is a talented actress, but I don't think she could have been Janeway.

I absolutely love Sigourney Weaver, but there's only one Janeway for me and that's Kate.

Would never have happened in a million years, but yes she would have made a brilliant Captain, although I suspect her Janeway would have been very different to Mulgrew's.

Ditto.
Me too, however I wouldn't have minded Lindsey Wagner either.

Plus, "Macrocosm" would have come off really corny putting Weaver back in the Ripley role. playing Janeway would have type cast her and I wouldn't wish to see her known only for sci-fi.

What about Linda Hamilton?

:eek::eek::eek:

Extreme awesomeness.

Weaver would have been great too.

I thought Mulgrew did a very fine job with Janeway, but when I look at her performance in season 1, at times she is so SOFT. I'm glad we got to see hardass Janeway later in the show.

I'd have rather seen Catherine Schell from Space:1999 (Second season; Maya) in that role. Alledgedly the producers wanted her, but she was not willing to move from her home in Germany to the US.

When I think of Sigourney Weaver, I can only picture her one of two ways:

1) hardcore badass from the Alien movies

OR

2) goofy woman from "Baby Mama"

I could not see her as Janeway.

Why would Weaver be a good Janeway?

The species 8472 situation

Janeway: Will you listen to me, Chakotay? Shut up!
Chakotay: Let's hear it. Let's hear it.
Janeway: It's using the air shafts.
Chakotay: You don't know that.
Janeway: That's the only way. We'll move in pairs. We'll go step by step and cut off every bulkhead and every vent until we have it cornered. And then we'll blow it the fuck out into space. Is that acceptable to you?

[Janeway has tried in vain to disengage Voyager's self-destruct]

Janeway
: Computer! I've turned the cooling unit back on. Computer!
Mother: The ship will automatically destruct in "T" minus five minutes.
Janeway: You... BITCH!
[smashes console with flamethrower]

:techman::lol:

I read somewhere (I think that it was in the Behind the Scenes book that focused on Hope and Fear) that Berman had considered contacting both Weaver and Hamilton about the role of Janeway but they never expected either to be interested so decided against it.
