It always strikes me as rather odd the way that people walk in and out of sickbay in the different series totally at will regardless of what is going on with another patient at the same time. The various doctors preach the gospel of patient confidentially but frequently treat and diagnose patients in front of their colleagues. It may not always be possible on a star ship to have a receptionist but they could at least have a a buzzer or something on the door.

In the 24th Century Trek no one cares about image or is body concious, if something is wrong you get it checked theres no big deal, obviously peoples private lives, are at their discretion, but no one is going to make a big deal out of it, if someone catches Rigellian Herpes from a dirty towel

It is true. Many times we see doctors openly treating patients and casual bystanders walk right in and conversations are held literally over the patient's body.

I'm viewing Star Fleet as a military organization. So Sick Bay would operate under those conditions. In the military, shower and head rights of privacy are lost. What is the norm for medical facilities? I would think much different than a private doctor's office or civilian hospital ward.
(I'm just a civilian, I cannot speak from experience).

I would think at the very least, people would stay a safe distance away just from a sanitary standpoint just to keep things sterile.

I seem to recall that in some of the earliest drafts of TMP (perhaps when it was still In Thy Own Image) San Francisco was replete with people being nude in public.
Anyone remember this, or have anything to back it up with?

First the “no money in the future” thing, then everyone walking around naked. I think the Great Bird of the Galaxy may have been smoking a little too much weed in the late ’70s.

Hardly.

Elimination of currency/money and removing taboos from various aspects is indeed viable in real life (let alone in a future hundreds of years from now).

It's mostly contemporary people's inhibitions and limits that prevent them from actually showing things on film that would be deemed as 'controversial'.
It IS America after all.
The amount of hypocritical behaviour and taboos are staggering to say the least (not that they aren't present in Europe and other parts of the world).

But seriously, once you see the word 'family oriented' (a wrongful 'categorisation' of ST in the first place) that's all you need to know.

Roddenberry had some great ideas, and I'm glad that at least some of them made it on-screen.

The nudity though did not for obvious reasons (though it would be great).

Finally, even Gene himself stated that his original vision of the 23rd and 24th centuries would be that there would be none of the sexual taboos that are currently present.

I find it laughable when people blame the man was smoking too much 'weed' when he came up with these ideas.
I think those people have some serious issues about letting go of inhibitions.

People walking around nude in public on city streets isn't a great idea. It's a ridiculous idea. First of all, people wear clothing for other reasons besides covering up their naughty bits. Like protection from the elements, having a place to carry your stuff, being stylish and wanting to look good. Let's face it, the vast majority of humans look better with their clothes on than off.

And please don't give me that crap about "people in the 24th century won't care about fashion and physical appearance" and all that. Humans are vain creatures. We always have been and always will be. It's intrinsic to our nature.
