Shuttlecraft prop

Just finished watching the Galileo 7 episode. What a great program! It has always made me really like the humble shuttlecraft. I read that the actual prop used to be in Palos verdes, but then was moved and finally lost. Does anyone know whatever happened to the full size prop?

It was recently restored by a dedicated group of fans, and was seen in a recent episode of Star Trek: Continues. I'm sure someone else will be by with more details.

Last I heard, the restored Shuttlecraft was on display indoors at the Houston Space Center.

The Lost in Space Robot (an extremely good replica that Sheila Matthews donated to NASA) is located at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. If the two were at the same facility it could have made a terrific photo op.

Don't look then!

I'm not! :p

Seriously, I never understood the logic of taking an otherwise beautiful picture and then "crapifying" it by putting watermarks all over it. What's the point of that?

Aren't pictures supposed to be for sharing? What's the worst thing that could happen, someone might download that picture and use it for their desktop? I understand putting a copyright down in the corner or something but to take a gorgeous shot like that and ruin it with watermarks so that nobody would be interested in downloading it seems illogical.

If you are that paranoid about "your" pictures, then the simple solution would be not to post any.

Can you imagine watching any of the fan based productions if the entire video was "edited" in the same way?

I will tell you why; so people don't steal them!! Don't get me wrong; I LOVE to share, however, a few years ago I bought a library with hundreds of reference photos of TOS stuff. Imagine my surprise when about a dozen or more of the photos were MY photos that this loser was selling. In addition I have some ya-hoo on ebay selling MY graphics complete with the tells that I inserted that the guy swears he did them on his own from his own research. So, that is why they are "crapified." I have tried to put a simple copyright at the bottom but they are simply cropped out. So, there you have it. I hope that helps you understand. There is something about buying my own photos that has soured me from posting photos without any identifying marks. Feel free to "look away" from any photos or graphics that I may post in the future, lol. I do try to make the watermark unobtrusive but sorry if they are not.

Yeah. And the marks in this photo are slight, compared to some I've seen!

Fair enough. I'm sure I would be upset too if people were trying to make money off of my pictures. Sadly, the internet age has made it too easy for things like that to happen.

I remember in one of the photography sites, there was a guy posting absolutely incredible pictures, nature shots and things like that.

Instead of putting his copyright info at the bottom, he would put it dead center! Ruined all the pictures but I guess people were stealing his stuff too.

It's like posting a gorgeous picture of Helen Noel and then photoshopping some buck teeth on her!! Sort of ruins the effect! :)

As I understand it, so much of the original shuttlecraft had rotted away, was removed or otherwise "renovated," that what left is at best a replica.

The original is basically gone forever.

:)

The internal metal skeleton or framework, the nacelles and landing struts are what's left of the original. The entire body has been rebuilt.

It really is a ship of Thesus paradox.

As mentioned upthread, the metal framework, nacelles and wing pylons are all original. The mockup was basically given a completely new skin. I'm willing to bet that by weight, the Galileo is more than 50 percent original material.

BTW, the restoration -- or reconstruction, if you prefer -- was undertaken by Master Shipwrights, Inc., a New Jersey company that specializes in repairing and restoring classic wooden boats. Probably the most unusual job they've ever had!

I went to see her in Houston last month.

The rebuild is very well done overall

I believe the busy box is Feeks work.

I've seen pics where the shuttlecraft hatch is open. Did they throw a few chairs inside or do anything at all with the interior? I know that Master Shipwrights built the exterior, did Houston touch up the inside at all?
