Let’s eliminate these annoying speculations for the finale one by one.
1. Arthur gets injected with Dexter's needle but something goes wrong allowing Arthur to wake up and run away from Dexter at the last minute. This may be the reason the finale is titled "The Getaway."
2. Arthur kills Rita.
3. Rita kills Arthur.
4. Deb uncovers the connection between Dexter and Brian and the shredded photo of Laura Moser in Dexter’s drawer.
5. LaGuerta and Baptista regretting their decision to get married.
6. Elliot getting killed.
- Rita leaves Dexter for Elliot: by the way Rita has been working on her relationship with Dexter in the past two episodes and Elliot’s absence at the house, that doesn’t seem likely.
- Rita divorces Dexter: same reason.
- Trinity turns out to one of Paul’s parents: it was mentioned that the parents may take Cody and Astor to Disneyland which implies that the parents are living in Florida or at least outside of Miami. If that isn’t enough, we would have seen Cody and Astor in the Mitchells’ home in the finale clip and for those saying that he may have another wife on the side, I don’t see him living in both Miami and Florida at the same time.
- Trinity turns out to be Dexter’s father or a long-lost relative of Dexter's: we’ve already been down that family road in Season 1.
- Dexter lets Trinity go because he offers him a place as his partner in his killings: since the Thanksgiving episode, Dexter has clearly shut down all interest in Trinity seeing that he isn’t the role model he fooled himself into believing he was.
- Dexter lets Trinity go because he is holding Cody hostage: how would Trinity find out about Cody’s location, get to it, and hold him as a hostage in the span of time the episode covers?
- Dexter kills himself or dies by the end of the season: the show is renewed for a fifth season so I don’t see the show continuing after the death of the main character it is named after.
- Deb dies by the end of the season: She’s an important part of the show and one of Dexter’s key relationships so I don’t them sacrificing that any time soon.
- Dexter goes on the run or underground by the end of the season and Season 5 focuses on his run from the law: I think the writers are smart enough not to repeat the mistake of Weeds as it goes from taking in place a quiet suburban town in California to some place in Mexico.
- Dexter takes out of himself out of his family’s life for their own good: though Dexter may have his doubts about being the right father and husband to his family, regardless he has shown great affection for them and once expressed that he can’t imagine his life without them. The Thanksgiving episode convinced him that he is nothing like Trinity who’s an abusive father with a pedophile crush on his daughter. Dexter may not perfect but, unlike Trinity, he knows he has flaws and actually works on them the best he can.
- Deb finds out everything about Dexter and his killer ways: I don’t think the episode has enough time for Deb to find out all of Dexter’s secrets especially his big, dark secret.
- Trinity gets get away by the end of the episode: I heard they don't plan on having the Trinity killer returning as a guest star down the line so I wouldn't be surprised if this is the last episode of Arthur Mitchell.
