Shows you're discovering/rediscovering on DVD

(Re: Corner Gas) I don't think there's much danger of a remake. Executives would have to be aware the show exists in the first place. At least something like Red Green is regularly broadcast on PBS. Who shows Corner Gas anymore? (WGN doesn't.) That show's probably next to unknown in the US. I only found it because of this place! :)

All the more reason for a network to make their own version and claim it as "original". Back in 1970 no on in the US had ever heard of a UK sitcom called Till Death Do Us Part, so CBS made its own version called All in the Family. The UK's Steptoe and Son was a complete unknown, so a US network made Sanford and Son and claimed it as an original. But I have little faith in a Corner Gas remake being nearly as successful (artistically or commercially). It would like be more along the lines of the US remake of Steven Moffat's "Coupling" - a show that was known in the US by reputation only, and the US remake tanked.

[*]Doctor Who 2009 specials — I'm hoping that the first two ("The Next Doctor" and "Planet of the Dead") don't need to be watched in order, because I'm still waiting on the former, and just got the latter today. Good news is that with Comcast forcing me to get a digital cable box, I now have BBC America. :)

Not those two, no, but Planet of the Dead, Waters of Mars and The End of Time need to be watched in order as a trilogy. (However, without spoiling, the way things are set up The Next Doctor could just as easily take place after Planet of the Dead or after Waters of Mars). Bear in mind they're all being released in a box set in February, too.

This actually happened a while ago, but Always Sunny. I had been hearing raves about it, but had never seen it until a friend lent me the DVDs about 6 months back. I'm not a die hard fan and I've probably seen every episode at least twice.

My next target is The Wire which (embarassingly) I've only seen a few episodes of.

^^^
Why is that embarassing? I've not seen any and I'm not embarassed.

More Rome S1 for me tonight disc 4 should be in the mail tonight.

Where do I start with this? Anyways over the last 8 months of so.

Discovered/Rediscovered - Star Trek - TOS, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Babylon 5, Farscape, nuBSG, Coupling (UK). I'm thinking about renting Angel, LOST and several movies from the library over the next few months. Currently watching some B5 for the second time, as back when it was on TV, didn't really interest me.

I'm on the final disc of Freaks and Geeks, and I really don't want it to end. So many good characters. On the strength of this show, I went ahead and put a hold on the complete series of Undeclared.

I also watched the first disc of The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency, which is a lot of fun. Jill Scott is really good as Precious Ramotswe, and Anika Noni Rose steals every scene she's in as the sharp-tongued secretary Grace Makutsi.

^I've read a few of the books and have put the DVD set on my Amazon wish list. One of these days I'm going to get it and watch it! :D Glad to read a good review. :)

I just finished ep 10 S1 of ROME. I'm really enjoying that, its a 'discovery' show, never seen it. I should get the last disc by Monday. Also, my Farscape set just arrived and that will be some rediscovery as well as discovery. I never did see the last two seasons.

Finished Freaks and Geeks. Really incredible, especially the finale, where the freaks become splintered... Lindsay and Kim go on the road with the Dead, Daniel bonds with the geeks over D&D, and Nick is off in disco-land with some chick he doesn't like as much as Lindsay. (BTW, seeing MST3K creator Joel Hodgson as the disco salesman was a riot.) I really do wonder where they would have taken the show if it had been renewed for a second season.

When they made the finale episode they actually had time and knew it was the finale, so they made it the way they wanted to.

Yeah, I know that. I'm just wondering "what if."

You know what would be cool? If they did a 20 year reunion movie, that would be funny. On one of the DVD commentaries the creator joked they would redo the show with all new cast, except what's his name (who was also on Undeclared) because he still looks 15.
