Shows that should have been better

I completely agree, and Peacekeeper Wars continued the positive points of season 4. In fact, it really showed how good a fifth and sixth season of the show could have been. But it took far, far too long to find itself. Longer than I remembered when I shelled out on the DVDs!

Hah, I'm glad I didn't come across as a complete blowhard. I was worried that I'd been too hard on it given its popularity, but I'm glad someone agrees with me. Question is, should I go ahead and buy the Peacekeeper Wars on DVD or wait until Netflix gets it?

Peacekeepers Wars is REALLY good, the only downside is pilots voice is so weird (Same actor, but he couldn't remember how he did it.).

I remember season 1 being rough, but I'm rewatching it and season 1 was better than I thought and the beginning of the second 2 is a lot worse. I feel the whole show had it's ups and downs throughout but that it's still a great show overall.

Yeah, when it was good, it was really good. I was very impressed with what they'd done, both in terms of alien design and stories. I was actually quite surprised at the length of the seasons, and taking that into account, it actually had done fairly well. Four seasons doesn't seem like much, but it's quite a lot of content. If the show were to be made today, it would likely be 15-episode seasons and maybe even be stronger and more focused.

Yeah it feels like there is a ton of filler in season 2. With 15 episode seasons I think it would have been more focused. There were basic plans for seasons 6 and 7 too.

It's the same with the later seasons of Stargates. I think if they had 13 episode seasons the shows would have been a lot better. However it still would be "We need the Ancient artifact!" every season finale.

I, myself, would vote for 3. The pilot movie is amazing, as is most of the first couple of seasons. In at least the last 1.5 seasons, it kind of went off the rails for me. It was clear they didn't have a plan (the writers nor the Cylons), and I thought the ending was poor. It was a struggle even to get through the last season, just so I could see the plot wrapped up.

For me around season 5

Season 6 for me and then have The Lost City be a movie like was planned. They never really felt like they were looking for the city in season 7.

I really do like Vala.

That's the problem, the writers only had a 1.5 season plan. They had a plan until the election. After that, even with the long breaks between episodes, they never came up where they were really heading and what was going on.

Seasons 1 and first half of two were great / really good. The new Caprica storyline was amazingly well done, but then it was just "ehh / average'. Overall I still like it, it's still a pretty good show, but it should have been a lot better.

BSG to me is like Touchwood. Everyone is like "I want more Torchwood", I watch a few and go online to say it's garbage and 90% of the people seem to agree. That's BSG. Everyone likes the acting and a lot of the stories were great, but overall the show just went off the rails.

Maybe 6 or 7? It should at the very least have ended when Richard Dean Anderson left the show. But it got 10 seasons? I think the show suffered burnout as a result. To me TNG showed that 7 seasons work best. Ten just seemed to be inviting trouble.

But seasons 9 and 10 were really just Stargate Command, Sci-fi / Syfy just wouldn't let them rename it.

Season 8 really ended most of the plotlessness, but I actually like when there are plotlessness that are left open.

Vala was the bestest thing ever from the Ori storyline, I just didn't get into or like that whole arc. Vala however pure awesome.

Based on it's first season [serious without "camp"], Lost In Space (1965-68) should have been much better in it's second and third seasons.
Based on it's first impressive season, Space:1999 (1975-77) should have been much better in it's second season.

I tend to agree. The first 15 episodes of Lost In Space had real potential had they kept the tone somewhat serious and tried not to make it as "fun" as they had done. The first four episodes actually were kind of dark what with Smith trying to get the robot to kill Don in a rather brutal manner. Kinda dark for a family show. I loved that. The rot set in 2nd and 3rd season and by the end the writers had milked the cow dry and had run out of ideas.

I watched all of nuBSG but I agree with those who say it's overrated.


It really wasn't well plotted with lots of weak threads like Six/Tighe, baltar cult, the love rectangles the importance of Hera and the opera house It most of the time felt like a bunch of stitched together isolated scenes the cylons were lame villains almost cyphers nowhere near as interesting as say DsN dominion

There was too much emphasis by the writers themselves on the mythology when ultimately it meant very little and fizzled. But I suppose I could say that of most shows with mythologies

It had some nice moments and an excellent series finale but overall I felt a lot of it was trying too hard to be the anti trek show with excessive ness in its darkness and angst. Plus it got old with all the close ups shaking camera of actors writhing, grimacing or destroying things meaning to be dramatic

One thing I did like about BSG was the musical score.... That was rather nice so that part I like. Not so much the psychotic human race. Surely those humans were not meant to be us. Maybe some other planet called Earth "snicker"

The finale wasn't the worst thing ever, but damn it wasn't good either. It just was a continuation of the writers not having a clue what they were doing so they threw it together at the last minute. That worked for TNG but not BSG.

By the finale I knew the plot was a mess but the finale had a lot of heart and great action sequences. So overall it was excellent on those terms and tied things up nicely for me
