should we send more troops to afghanistan

I'm beginning to suspect that think isn't the only self-aware computer program posting on this board.

No, we shouldn't. It's a clusterfuck over there and I'd rather we not get our soldiers involved with it and thus put them in harm's way.

yes if Gen. stanley Mchrystal said so!
Has to do with looking good.

Obama got handed Afghaistan like Nixon got handed Vietnam. He facing the same options, simply pull the troops, cut america's losses, abandon what allies we have to their fate. Or increase the number of troops and try for some kind of victory?

Nixon choose the latter course and loss

Obama?

That's what the people on the ground over there say we need. We give it to them, period. Politicians have NO business running a war. They say to start, they say to stop, but they do NOT say how to conduct the war effort.

BamBam made winning Afganistan a priority during his campaign. Now he waffles?

If the general wants more troops, we either relieve the general or send him the troops he wants.

I'd say send them.

I'm not sure what we should do. I'm very concerned about the Afghan population. I think the best thing we could do right now is to focus solely on protecting the local population without any offensive actions. Since the US did invade and overthrow the Taliban, I think we must stay until there is a good working government with the ability to protect its citizens. That said, I really don't want anyone killed (NATO soldiers, Afghan forces, civilians, Taliban, al Qaeda, and so on). So I don't know.

Actually, they do. I, like most sane and freedom loving individuals, demand oversight of all military actions through the election of the commander-in-chief.

I thought about typing out an educated and thought out response to the OP's question; then I realized that I just didn't really feel like being bothered. It would take too much thinking and too much typing; and right there I hit upon the real problem. We don't care anymore.

You can only say "It's going well on the Eastern Front" for so long before folks start to get sick of even thinking about it. In any case, it isn't my decision; so since nothing I say is going to change things, I'll leave out the well thought out comment about the business and fate of the United States and the 21st century.

I'll keep it simple. Either take them over and raise our flag above their capitol, or get out of there and let them do whatever they do. Eight years of being in there has proven that the concept of temporary occupation doesn't do a whole lot.

It's like bribing a violent man to make him stop abusing a woman stupid enough to wilfulling take part in the relationship. If you don't want the responsibility of marrying her, just don't be bothered. You can get rid of the first idiot dude, but she'll just go find another one. The same basic principle applies to muslim extremists.

Absolutely. If Truman had fulfilled MacArthur's demands without question, there'd be a lot more radioactive craters in the world.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

Yes. We should send more troops to Afghanistan in the order to combat the battle against Taliban and other terrorist groups in the order to defeat them.

Not only are we going to Afghanistan, Tom Harkin, we're going to South Carolina and Oklahoma and Arizona and North Dakota and New Mexico, and we're going to California and Texas and New York ... And we're going to South Dakota and Oregon and Washington and Michigan, and then we're going to Washington, D.C., to take back the White House! Yeah!!!
