Should they have used Chief O' Brien in a TNG movie?

It makes sense for a lot of reasons. He started out as a TNG character and made enough of a impact he even got a entire episode about him, plus he was important enough to even bring back in the series final. Colm Meaney is also a legit movie actor so it makes sense to want to use someone with that rep in your movie. I think one of the reasons Guinan was used in "Generations" was also because she had been a movie star. He would have also made sense to have been on the Defiant in "First Contact."

O'Brien wasn't part of the puzzle in that crew.

A secondary role wouldn't be so bad. That was kind of his role on TNG but because he is a movie star find away to give him a big moment or scene. Maybe someone asks him to guard the transporter room in "First Contact" and you play it as a joke. The idea is they want him there because he might need to beam up the crew on the surface and save the day, and you cut back to him from time to time with him basically being really bored, while everyone else it seems to be fighting the Borg on the ship. The joke is that he doesn't have a huge role in the movie. but the subtext is that the character thinks he should or will.

Yes, I would have liked that. As it was O'Brien never interacted with the TNG crew after he left the show (except Worf and the AGT finale')

You wouldn't neccesarily need O'Brien as part of the crew. He could be an unwilling Section 31 agent or something. There was certainly possibilities there.

Should they have shown a shot of Commander Riker's underware drawer? Would have gone a long way toward solidifying the realism of the film, and showing that these are real people.

Appearing in the ("flashback" parts of) the series finale was enough of a farewell to his role in the series, he could have appeared in FC or maybe Nemesis and it make some sense but not a lot, he generally wasn't presented as that close to the main cast and the films already had enough difficulty giving enough time to characters other than Picard and Data.

I think the only place for him to be used is as part of the engineering team working on the Phoenix in FC. Instead of Barclay, they could have had O'Brien having a Cochrane fanboy moment. He would have handled himself more professionally, but as long as he mentions the statue that sends Cochrane into his freakout, rest of the film goes on as written.

It would have made perfect sense for O'Brien to have been on the Defiant in FC, that would have gotten him on the Enterprise, and he could have been in scenes with Picard and Data doing patrols for the Borg.

The scene where a random officer reports to Picard on the Borg advance and Picard says fight hand to hand if they have to would be perfect for O'Brien.

I agree with Vger. While personally I would have loved to have the Chief in at least one of the movies it would have come at a cost to everyone else. As it is most of the movies only focused on a couple of the cast. It would have been very difficult to have brought him in.

Dropping Data's "humor" and sex time with the queen in FC would create plenty of time for O'Brien.

With enough left over for Ro, Guinan, the girl with the punk hair, and a cameo by Wesley too.

Eh, looking back at how LaForge and Crusher were criminally underused in Insurrection and Nemesis, O'Brien being a super-Extra would've been in line with the TNG movies.

Though, it'd be nice to see O'Brien on par with LaForge, since O'Brien was a mechanical wizard on DS9 but never really had the chance to do that in TNG.

I think this would have been the simple way of doing it. They brought back Wesley and Guinan, if nothing else it'd be sweet to see Miles (and Keiko) there as well.

He had a couple of decentish roles in Under Seige and Con Air, but it wasn't really until Layer Cake in 2004 that he started getting starring roles.

Well there was also "The Van" and "Snapper" and the "Commitmentents." I think he was also in "A Englishment went up a Hill." I think star might be much but I do think he was a legit character actor.

I'd have rather just had him in a DS9 movie - in addition to OR instead of Insurrection and/or Nemesis.
