Should there be mentions of Archer's enterprise?

I'm going to say... not directly. If there's some oblique reference to Enterprise - something about Admiral Sato in background chatter, mentioning a ship being en route from Archer IV, or even a Xindi or Denobulan Starfleet officer somewhere, then cool. But I really wouldn't want them to hang too much off of the other series.

Edit: Maybe once the series is well-established, a follow-up to something that happened in Enterprise and maybe even a guest spot would be welcome, if appropriate to the rest of what is going on. But I'd say no sooner than three seasons in.

Edit to the edit: Who am I kidding? They could go full fanwank right away and stay there and I'd love every minute of it. :D

I agree with Dukhat. Unless it is relevant to the plot, any mention would seem forced.
"Hey guys look, that old show happened!"

That said, I wouldn't mind there being a hand off in the pilot like the past series did. But we already have a thread talking about that.

An off-hand reference, like lets say they visit a system seen/mentioned in ENT would be fine something like 'The last ship to survery this system was the NX-01'. Though that would seem weird considering it would have been 100 years ago.

I wouldn't expect them to reference Trek's least successful show, for the obvious reason to not remind people of failure... but the recent movies have been referencing it left and right (particularly in Beyond, with MACOs, the Franklin and the Xindi backstory) so who knows??

Well, ENT was relevant to Beyond's plot. I don't really see it being relevant to DSC's plot. Then again, I don't know what DSC is going to be about, so there's that.

No issue with background stuff, models and paintings and Okudagrams and so on, but I can't imagine it being mentioned in dialogue in a way that doesn't seem forced as hell.

You know how Enterprise features prominent footage of Alan Shepard in the opening credits? Discovery should feature Jonathan Archer and the NX-01 in a similar fashion. "It's been a long road, getting from there to here..."

Something on the level of what the reboot films did to reference it would be neat. Generally the shows didn't go out of their way to reference the previous shows except for little minor things.

Enterprise was beyond garbage and thankfully written ultimately as just a holoprogram for a leading character to avoid stress. Thankfully.

Unlike JJ Trek...

No it wasn't. It was just in that single episode.

Plus in the episode Riker calls it a Historic Holoprogram

I think PicardSpeedo was being sarcastic.

EDIT: Now I see he's just being delusional. Scratch that.

I didn't particularly like ENT either, but I'm not going to pretend that it's not canon.
