Like it or not, it's a fact that the current Star Wars franchise is largely focused on the prequel era. There are some exceptions such as some of the books and comics (and of course the toys are still from both trilogies as well as CW), but overall Lucasfilm's stuff has largely focused toward promoting the prequels and clone wars.

However, the fanfilm Solo Adventures has proven there is demand for the adventures of the original trilogy characters.
Sure, previous OT toons-Holiday special, Droids and Ewoks-haven't been that great, but there certainly is potential.

Continuity with some of the spots established in the EU might be an issue with some fans and authors, as it has been with Clone Wars. But I'm suprised there really hasn't been a lot of EU linking ANH and ESB, with the exception of stuff published between the films. Even then, a lot of that is mostly extremely dated (Such as the Marvel comics).

The ESB/ROTJ divide is covered by Shadows of the Empire more or less, but I think Star Wars needs Han and not some knock-off character like "Dash Rendar". I notice that frequently on message boards there has been demand for a Shadows CG project of some kind.

Animation and voice acting also covers aging if they follow-up ROTJ. Mark Hammil of course is a gifted voice actor, although there are a few good Luke soundalikes such as Bob Bergen. Harrison Ford is pretty much covered by the guy who did Solo Adventures (Since it's unlikely we'd see Harrison return in any capacity). I'm sure plenty of people could voice Leia. Anthony Daniels is always up for Threepio. Billy Dee Williams has reprised Lando for some of the games, but he doesn't really sound that much like he used to.

I think the only real problem would be Vader. JEJ's voice is fairly hard to duplicate. I don't think Lucasarts has ever got it quite right in their games.

I'd still prefer the "Dark Times" series (live-action would be my first choice but realistic CGI would suffice) set between ROTS and ANH.

^That does seem to be the era least covered by the EU, except for the Force Unleashed, relatively few novels and the Dark Times and Purge comics....plus it does cover a good chunk of time (Nearly 20 years).

To be honest I'm not sure, it might be fun to have a CG series during the OT or post Jedi but I'm expecting once Clone Wars to end there would be a new CG series focusing on the gap between Sith, the fall out of Order 66 and the purge up until A New Hope.

I've long wanted to see CGI versions of Splinter of the Mind's Eye (with selective omissions to keep it "canon") and Shadows of the Empire. I believe there were also some graphic novel followups to some of the stuff in SOTE that could also be done.

I certainly wouldn't mind seeing the 3 years between ANH and TESB shown on the small screen also. If they could adapt some of the better Marvel comics stories that would be neat, but also original stuff.

Three years, my arse. I know that's the canonical length, but I put it at 3 months, 6 tops. Han might have a thing for Leia, but a dashing, roguish smuggler such as himself ain't sticking around that long without so much as a kiss. A couple months to help the Rebels move into Hoth and let things cool down a bit, then it's back to the smuggling and paying off Jabba.

On the OT question, I vote yes, but if and only if the PT is basically ignored/out-of-sight, out-of-mind. No battle droids, no Jango clones.

Call me when they do something live-action or cgi post-Return of the Jedi.

I agree 3 years is a bit much, but it still feels to me like more time has passed than a few months between ANH and ESB. The shift in tone between the two movies is so dramatic (as the struggle against the Empire goes from so bright and victorious to so incredibly hopeless) that it seems like more time would be required for things to evolve to that point.

And as I said in the other thread, I think the dynamic of Han, Luke and Leia in ANH would be absolutely PERFECT for animation. Just like with Kirk, Spock, and McCoy in Trek, those three are the real heart of SW, and what made it worth watching in the first place. It's about time the franchise got back to that.

I don't think so. Pre-ANH, the Rebellion was probably a minor distraction on the periphery of things; the Emperor was implied to be more concerned with his controversial plot to disband the Senate entirely. But when the Rebels blew up the Death Star, they felt the full force of Imperial threats. To use an up-is-down analogy, al-Qaeda in Afghanistan must have partied long and hard the night of 9/11, but Coalition airstrikes and search patrols made their lives rather more complicated in short order - certainly not three years! :p

I hear ya, but OTOH, put Han and Leia together too long without them hooking up and you risk not only repetitiveness, but diluting Han's character, since, as I said, I don't think he'd wait all that long for her. Notice how the beginning of ESB reverts the trio to the same emotional space as when Han scurries away from Yavin before the attack, negating the implied closure of ANH's finale. One might be able to slow things down by having Han pursue Leia, being rebuffed, and shacking up with a more willing Rebel chick for a while, but I'm not at all sure fans would go along with that.

Whenever rumors arise of a live-action TV series--and that seems to happen frequently--they always claim that it will focus on that period.

Personally, I'd like to see the next TV series be post-Return of the Jedi. I think the reason why the prequel era is so attractive is because they're able to flood it with all sorts of kickass Jedi characters. But during the OT era, there either weren't many Jedi or the ones that were around were relegated to irrelevance. (There's a fanfilm, Knightquest I believe, which ends with the new Jedi character swearing vengeance upon Darth Vader. This scene doesn't have nearly the resonance that the filmmakers seem to intend because we know that, whatever efforts she might have made, she failed because Darth Vader is still around to trouble Luke Skywalker in Return of the Jedi.) Seeing the rebirth of the Jedi in a post-Return of the Jedi series opens up far more possibilities for iconic lightsaber wielding action.

One might be able to slow things down by having Han pursue Leia, being rebuffed, and shacking up with a more willing Rebel chick for a while, but I'm not at all sure fans would go along with that.

Do I smell a Pink Five cameo!?!:techman: [yt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jy8ZjhnijgM[/yt]

The live-actions series is currently on hold, but I don't see why you'd refer to it as "rumors." By this previous May, when Lucas announced the series was on hold, art teams had already been working on concept art; a writing team had been assembled and had finished at least some scripts; Lucas had done location scouting; he had at least one director; and he had started cast auditions.

Why doesn't Lucas just turn the Dark Times live-action show into a second CGI show? Or would that be even more expensive.

I don't know what sort of costs would be involved in producing either format, but Lucas once estimated (way back in 2005) the cost per episode of the live-action series as likely being $1 million per episode.

I refer to it as "rumors" because it seems like they've been talking about it for nearly a decade.

Egads. Hasn't this franchise got enough brunettes as is?! What about the blondes, the redheads, the blueheads, the baldies? :p

Isn't Mara Jade a redhead?

There aren't any baldies because Delta IV isn't anywhere near the Star Wars galaxies.
