I think a Flat-Earther would no longer be a Flat-Earther once they left the planet. Unless they purposely went out of their way to not look outside any windows when the ship departed Earth. Then they could spin at as "Other planets are round but not Earth! Earth is flat!" Leave it to them to come up with something.

The loss of Romulus could have had a deeply profound impact on some Vulcans who favored reunification and also those who might absolutely reject taking in Romulan refugees with all of their passions and violent emotions. While part of me could see the Vulcan Extremist movements of the 22nd and 23rd centuries being a relic of the past by the time PIC rolls around I think we need to remember that a Vulcan extremist attempted to reconstruct and use the Stone of Gol during Season 7 of TNG, so there were still Vulcans who embraced dangerous and violent ideologies well into the late 24th century.

A podcast I listened to interviewed Robin Curtis this week and one of the things that was tossed around was the possibility of Tallera returning. I would love to see that. I would love various things from TNG to be revisited in an update kind of way, not just to redo the story.

What really floored me about the Logic Extremists was that there was one serving in Starfleet! An Admiral, no less! I never understood that.

It'd be like a member of the IRA serving in the British Army. Why would anyone want to join an organization serving an entity they seek to destroy?

You know, Captain Solok kinda struck me as a 'Vulcan for vulcans' type as well. Apart from his issues with Sisko, he also seemed to have some prejudice towards non-vulcans in general. I could see someone like Solok joining starfleet purely because of a narcissistic belief that Starfleet and it's multitude of dopey, emotional species would benefit from his Vulcan awesomeness. Perhaps it was the same for Petar and she was sympathetic to logic extremists but didn't necessarily condone the actions of more radical elements such as that of the guy who almost killed Sarek.

Has anyone confirmed whether

the "men in black" were speaking Romulan and not Vulcan? Given that the Romulans tried to invade their planet back in the day ("Unification, part II"), it seems like some Vulcans wouldn't be keen on having the population of Romulus welcomed into Federation borders, with a group like the Vulcan Logic Extremists possibly pulling the strings of the rogue synthetics in order to prevent the successful evacuation of Romulus.

It would be reminiscent of Valeris' opposition to peace with the Klingons in TUC. Or Sakonna procuring weapons for the Maquis against the Cardassians. Vulcans haven't always gone the route of "open arms to all."

Spoiler: My guess is

Romulan since one of the attackers loses their helmet and we can see that they have Romulan cranial ridges. Also, the language spoken sounds very similar to the language overheard on the Borg cube at the end of the episode.

Of course, we now know that Vulcan and Romulan sound indistinguishable to the average Starfleet communications officer (but not, for some reason, to Hoshi Sato). And it is only a matter of time before we see our first Vulcan cranial ridges.
