Taking a lead from another thread I've been thinking, would colin's era be improved by the lack of colour? Would retrofitting his stories into black and white help? What do people think?

Starkers runs for it!

I know ;)

I am trying to make a point though, if it's acceptable to colourise the B&W shows why not the reverse? I mean why not just digitally darken 6's clothes, give him the blue outfit people like?

Let's face it: lots of people would watch those stories if the horribly loud colors were toned down.

Is it too much to ask to have at least the option of watching a de-colourised version of Vengeance on Varos? Old fans can still watch the original version if they want, it's not going anywhere, but if the BBC released the alternate, black and white versions of these classic episodes, it would be able to SELL THEM TWICE! :techman:

What's wrong with doing what your customers want? I guess some people can't accept anything new.

I think he could use a touch up, but then again, I think Black and White could use colour..

It does seem a bit absurd though, because people who dislike the 6th doctor generally do because of the actor himself, and not his clothes, however, I had fantasy ideas as a kid that there was some special effects that could go in and make his clothes a solid colour...

Blue is perhaps the most preferable..:techman:

Hey If it is good for the goose, then why not the gander eh?

it's a valid point.. I voted yes.. :D

by the way, did I miss something with Omaha and the 6th doctor? there seems to be a running joke about the 6th and most fans who do not like him?? was there a thread that hailed the 6th and placed him on an alter or something?

Half the people on this board feel the sixth Doctor is the greatest, and never miss an opportunity to remind us of his awesomeness, while the other half think that sixth Doctor cheerleaders are delusional fetishists.

Omaha has the mistaken impression that The Sixth Doctor is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

That being said, I like The Sixth Doctor, especially in the Big Finish audios (I think his Doctor shines the most in the audios, closely followed by The Eighth Doctor). I think it's a shame that Colin Baker didn't get a decent shot in the series. Between a rubbish costume (which Baker himself hated) and mostly rubbish stories (there a few gems within his run), The Sixth Doctor didn't get a fair shake.

Can the audios be de-colourised as well? I've never heard any of them, but his jacket is so damn loud I bet they'd benefit as well.

Ahh.. Well I like the 6th and dislike him as well.. mostly because of Peri's whining, and the costume... but there were some cool things in his era..delusional fetishists! Hahahahaaha :guffaw::lol::rofl::techman:

I keep hearing about those, and I really need to check them out, I would love to get them on CD so I can listen to them as I ride around..I have become a huge fan of books on disc or tape while driving.. though I drive a classicaly restored BMW 325I circa 1987.. which has a tape deck..LOL It's not the newest sleekest car on the road, but it is very nice and looks new since It has been restored to perfect factory specs...the engine is awesome..never had a problem..

When I remember reading about the new Baker doctor in doctor who magazine as a kid, I kept wondering if they were going to hearken back to the Tom Baker costume a bit and maybe give him a black trench coat, or maybe a cool fisherman's waist coat with a scarf.. that would have rocked! but nope.. it ended up being the sickening 60's era batman costumed rubbish..if colin baker had makeup on 1 side of his face, he could have been a 60's era 2face and gone up against Adam West's batman..

Bam! Biff! Boom!

But you are right there were some fantastic stories in the 6th's years.. notably the Cyberman stuff, the 2 doctors (where he lost the coat and turned cool and was the last time we saw Troughton as the 2nd doc..R.I.P.), and the Mark of the Rani..(the rani's tardis)

Unfortunately John Nathan Turner wore loud Hawaiian shirts all the time and possibly imagined everyone dressed like that...

I really should listen to some audios at some point, but to be honest if/when I do the Five/Tegan/Nyssa/Turlough ones will probably be the priority. I did like the first couple of Stranger videos. Nicola Bryant was so much hotter as Miss Brown!

Might be an interesting experiment, maybe I'll adjust VLC sometime and try it.

There was a sixth Doctor?

Was he the one who died because he fell over?
Yes, there was a Sixth Doctor. There are a variety of explanations for his sudden regeneration, but all we know from on screen is that he ... regenerated.

Omaha is going to kill you, Starkers!

Isn't it against the board rules to create a thread simply to troll one specific poster, as Starkers has done? :scream:

One - It's not acceptable to colorize the Black and White shows, and it's not acceptable to de-colorize the best Doctor's shows either.

Is it too much to ask to have at least the option of watching a de-colourised version of Vengeance on Varos?
Yes

Yes. The Sixth Doctor is the best Doctor in the history of ever. Best on the show, best off the show, best in the audios, he's just generally the best Doctor around. Tennant couldn't hold a candle to his awesomeness, and Colin Baker would be the first to tell you it's true.

Those who are under the misimpression that there was anything less than perfect in the entire Sixth Doctor's run simply need to have their heads examined.

Omaha has the mistaken impression that The Sixth Doctor is the greatest thing since sliced bread.
That's not true. He was around - and great - long before sliced bread. Time travel, dontchyaknow.

Too many people look at the costume and decide he's not something they want to watch. I call them idiots. Fortunately in the audios, people can imagine them in any costume they wish.

how about this?

Brown?

Meh, it's the stripes that bring it down.. if the pants and jacket were in solids, the rest would work..but man, that outfit would be difficult to recolour..

The problem with the sixth Doctor's era wasn't the actor or the costume. The problem was the quality of the scripts, the increasingly self-referential tone, the pantomime acting from some of the guests and the general feeling of a show that was on its last legs, made half-heartedly by people who found the whole thing a bit embarrassing.
