Should the Sarah Jane Adventures continue?

I suppose one thing we are missing here is that Lis probably knew she was ill and probably discussed what would happen if she became too ill to work. If they did indeed film the first and last espisodes of the next series first in the run, perhaps she was concerned that she might become too ill to work and wanted to be sure that the show reflected her departure. She was a true professional and I would anticipate that she had a hand in whatever decision they make for the sake of the cast, crew, children, and adult fans.

Personally I think the show as it is, is over. They could have another show with existing characters, but in a different setting or something. I think Clyde and Rani are almost old enough to be on Doctor Who itself... I would have no problem with that whatsoever, assuming Amy leaves at some point for whatever reason.

As to what happens to the character of Sarah Jane, I agree that most honourable thing to do is for the character to pass as well. How that can be handled is anyone's guess, but it would have to be done pretty damn well if it's ever to be shown on screen, or even mentioned in the main show (or even Torchwood).

I'm also really torn about this. Clyde and Rani could very well continue the show on their own (but rebranded) although I really like the idea of them joining The Doctor further down the road after Amy and Rory have left.

I can't really see them recasting her because Sladen is and will always be Sarah Jane.

"No, there is another."

Jessica Ashworth.

I guess an alien can alter her appearance in an attempt to turn the kids against her and she gets stuck with a new face. Or some alien machine makes her young again (Jessica Ashworth?). Still Sarah Jane, but looks different.

Or the Doctor can (accidentally) leave the young Sarah Jane in the present (and presumably the present in the past). Hundreds of way to go with this choice.

Forgot about her. So there's four ways to continue the show. The three I already mentioned and the fourth being have a younger version of her in something like "The Young Sarah Jane Adventures". Again it wounldn't be the same as Sladen is who you think of when you think of Sarah Jane. It would just be a show that uses the name "Sarah Jane" to get fans to watch it.

Just let it go.

For forty years people said that William Shatner was Captain Kirk and Leonard Nimoy was Mr. Spock and no one else could play those roles. And for a lot of people, JJ Abrams proved them wrong.

I've thought for a while that Rose Byrne would make a fantastic young Sarah Jane Smith. She's too much in demand now, I think, for it to happen, but she looks a fair bit like a young Sladen and Damages has shown her acting range rather well.

William Shatner is and always will be Kirk. Plus he is 80, and a prequel and isn't the name character of a show that's still on.

Let the show die and make another one if need be. I would have Sarah Jane die of cancer, it would be fitting. She fought aliens for 40 years but in the end everyone, everywhere dies.

I thought about her as well, but I wasnt sure for two reasons

1) The Young Sarah Jane Adventures wouldnt work, until she met the Doctor her life wasnt really worthy of featuring in Doctor Who, sure she was a jounralist, but she didnt run into ailens, or anything like that.

2) some sort de-aged or body swap Sarah Jane, not sure I like either, de-aging her, kinda takes away from the character, however they have managed to do that well with Matt Smith, and body swapping with your younger self I dont like, and again leaves the young Sara Jane with adventure she shouldnt have had pre meeting the Doctor, but in that case I guess "Wibbly Wobbly Timey Whimey" might cover it.

pretty sure the episodes were planned to air anyways, Sunday sees a repeat of The Mark of the Berserker and The Temptation of Sarah Jane Smith (the episode where she goes back in time to meet her parents)

That fills the 15 minute gap between Doctor Who & Doctor Who Confidentail, quite well.

I was thinking that they could do away with (gosh I have manners) SarahJane and the Brigadier simultaneously. Which then afforded me a very off thought... What if they were on a date?

Yes, yes Dorris is lovely, but according to Nicholas (read the wiki), Alistair was already married and remained so for quite some time when he began the old slap and tickle with Dorris. Dudes into cheating. Personally I thought he showed so much chemistry with Morgan LeFay that I forgot he was married halfway through Battlefield and by the end I was demanding in my heart of hearts that they run away together to live happily ever after like Hannibal and Clarice.

Whatever happens to The Sarah Jane Adventures or to the character of Sarah Jane Smith, I hope that we keep seeing Clyde and Rani in some fashion -- either their own show continuing their adventures, or on Doctor Who. I didn't watch SJA much, but I always enjoyed Daniel Anthony's and Anjli Mohindra's performances, and it would be a shame to lose them.

Perhaps a different take on the following proposed (1981) series using K-9 and the other established characters in the Sarah Jane Adventures instead of Sarah..(and actually deal with her character's passing in the initial episode as a tribute in itself)

Maybe it is okay to let some things be, let people rest in peace.

You don't need a television show to continue for countless decades. You don't need to bring back dead people through CGI or recast them with lookalikes.

The woman has been dead a day, and people want CGI or body swaps and on and on and on.

Let it rest.

Let her rest.

I voted "no" in the poll but that's not my complete answer. I think The Sarah Jane Adventures should end. However, I think they should look into doing a different Doctor Who spinoff aimed at the same demographic. Leave Bannerman Road behind. Perhaps shift gears and do a globe-trotting alien adventure series centered on Jo Grant with a different supporting cast. Guest appearances could then be used to resolve Clyde, Rani, & other Sarah Jane characters.

Not for this guy. Putting aside my distaste for the film, I didn't like Chris Pine's performance but Zachary Quinto's performance was fairly good. That being said, Shatner and Nimoy will always be Kirk and Spock.

I've thought for a while that Rose Byrne would make a fantastic young Sarah Jane Smith. She's too much in demand now, I think, for it to happen, but she looks a fair bit like a young Sladen and Damages has shown her acting range rather well.
Dear god no. She was merely adequate in Damages and paled in comparison to the many talented actors and actresses around her. Keep her far, far away from Sarah Jane Smith.
