Should Spock Prime warn them about...

What I find interesting is that the Abramsverse novel Greg Cox wrote, which unfortunately has been indefinitely postponed, would have dealt with the issue of Spock Prime's knowledge of future events. But alas, we won't get to see that story now...:(

Don't remind me. I am still not over that disappointment :(

I was in a lather of excitement over those books :vulcan:

If he starts, where does it end? Where is the line drawn? Does Spock warn ever Redshirt on the Enterprise about their specific mission, only for their best friend to meet the same fate?

The most logical move is for him to work directly with the Vulcans on helping them rebuild and repopulate.

Spock's knowledge of the future makes him a major target for enemies of the Federation. I hope there's something like a Vulcan witness protection program.

Normally you'd be right, but often writers of all Star Trek will push aside those kinds of things. Imagine Voyager and how much political mayhem would go down when other governments found that it had all that future technology which destroyed the Borg. Nope, nothing came of it, and Janeway was last seen as an admiral. Nimoy's Spock will be completely forgotten.

As an aside for what Spock Prime would really do, well his whole reasoning for coming to the past in the first place was to change it. Maybe his perspective has changed now that Vulcan was destroyed and things didn't turn out as planned, but his original intent was to make things right.

It may be a separate timeline but I don't think Spock would want deaths on his conscience if disaster occurred as a result of information he provided.
If that's Spock's attitude then he never should have joined Starfleet. For his whole career, he assessed risks and contributed to decisions that were meant well but could have resulted in disaster. That's a normal part of a job in Starfleet, so it's a bit late to start getting cold feet about the possibility of fucking up. :rommie:

I mean, look at the whole Romulus situation. Spock's fuck up killed millions in two realities. Does that mean he shouldn't have tried to save Romulus? He should have just let Romulus go kaboom, then he wouldn't have to feel bad about it.

Does Spock warn ever Redshirt on the Enterprise about their specific mission, only for their best friend to meet the same fate?
The timeline has already diverged too much from his own for specifics like that to be reliable, and Spock's information will change the situation even further beyond that. He can tell Starfleet that there's a giant space ameoba at a certain place and a certain time, but that will mean Starfleet's behavior changes so much that the way Spock remembers the ameoba story going will no longer even remotely be possible.

In The Undiscovered Country, Spock told Valeris that she needed faith that the universe would unfold as it should. Based on that, I can't see him listing off potential threats to Starfleet, although he might if the new timeline makes the old solutions to the big problems (V'ger, the Whale Probe) untenable.

He should tell them about the big threats. That way, the next film can feature Kirk tricking V'Ger, the Whale Probe, and the Doomsday Machine into fighting each other. After sleeping with all of them.

Let’s all take a moment to consider the Freudian imagery in The Doomsday Machine...

...okay, that’s long enough.

That’s what she said!

The Borg
The Dominion

If Starfleet plays its cards right, they can get the Borg and the Doms fighting long before they're scheduled to encounter either, and maybe they'll wipe each other out. At the very least, we'll finally get to settle the question of whether a Founder can be assimilated. :rommie:

(*sob*)

I'm still hoping we'll see those books, edited slightly to fit in with the STXII story, in the run-up to the film's release.

(Besides, Nimoy's retired again! What are the chances a book focusing on him is gonna clash with anything that happens in The Re-Wrath of Khan anyway?! [rest of ten-page rant omitted])

For what it's worth, here's the blurb for Greg Cox's The Hazards of Concealing (which was planned for a June 29th release in the US):

The recent movie left one important loose end: The elder Spock from the 24th century. His knowledge of both technology and future events makes him one of the most important strategic assets in the galaxy. Starfleet Command wants Ambassador Spock to rejoin Starfleet and share that information with them, but Spock is reluctant to interfere with the unfolding of the new timeline. Will he be able to escape a sinister plan wrought by the enemies of the Federation, or will their quest to exploit Spock's wisdom suceed, with disasterous consequences?

Again, I hope we see it and the other three post STXI novels one day!

A point of contention. Spock-Prime did not go to the past on purpose, he got sucked into the after effect of a collapsing sun.

If they want to continue tampering with the time line, why not tell them about the Borg? That and tell them never let Shatner direct.....:)

...Oh and Voyager gets lost in the Delta Quadrant and emerges 7 years later with "Batmobile" armor.....:)
