Should Sela Have Been Giving More Episodes ?

Nero's Shadow

I've been watching seasons 3 4 and now 5 again and I liked how they bought in cammander Sela into the season 4 and 5 she was a good strong villian with further potential. I think she should have been seasons 6 and the final season.

They could have gone into her background more and maybe even seen her mother and given a story on what happend to the enterprise C after the battle at naranda 3.

So what do you think could sela have made later seasons and more episodes !!

She may not have been the best conceived character (I've always liked her actually) but I wanted some kind of conclusion. We last saw her unconscious on the floor in an office. That's not a good way to go out.

No. It was a silly idea and she shouldn't have shown up in the first place. IMO.
Absolutely! If Denise Crosby wanted to the return, they could have burried her in Romulan makeup, and had her play a new Romulan officer. She would have her Trek job, and they wouldn't have had to write such a convoluted way to bring her back.

i couldnt disagree more. I thought it was an inventive way to bring her back as Sela. It tied back to one of the best episodes of Trek and I loved that the crew had no idea of the events of yesterdays Enterprise. I don't remember if Guinan was in this episode. I think not, which is sad, because I think an exchange between those two would have been awesome

Yeah I agree! I thought it was a cool way to bring her back. The tie in with Yesterday's Enterprise was awesome and seeing the crews reaction to this was great.

It all happened as an aside to the episode, not as a means of advancing the plot. I really just see it as a gimmick, nothing more.
We'll just agree to disagree.

I totally agree with you, tomalak. I think it should be obvious that I like Sela since my avatar is a picture of her.
As far as the title of this thread, which I corrected from giving to given, my answer is a BIG, loud, resounding: YES.

Huh. I though Sela was a terrible character, one of TNG's biggest blunders outside the 1st season--she left such a bad taste in my mouth, she almost retro-actively ruined "Yesterday's Enterprise" for me. But you want to hear the strangest part? I'm actually pleased that you folks liked her. It's an ill wind and all that; so long as some people found her fun and fascinating, what skin is it off my rump?

I think Sela was a good character...but to continue overly much into a story line violates the concept TNG story-telling. They don't get over wrapped up in character arcs. I like it that way because they always had something interesting to say on other things and other characters and other events. I would not have liked a Sela dominated story line in the later TNG.

It would have been good for DS9 or a later trek series though.

I'd have just made it more clear that Romulan High Command knew her plan in Unification was doomed to failure and they just wanted the half-breed out of the way considering she'd likely be executed afterwards.

The LAST thing TNG needed was the Barbie Doll Romulan and lacklustre acting ability of Denise Crosby. Hell the Romukan costumes didn't even show her best asssts (and I think, the only reason she was hired in the first place for TNG ;).)

I think that Sela could have made an excellent nemesis for Picard. She is cunning, ruthless, and prepared. While all of the wonderful posters mentioned the bland and somewhat predictable manner in which the writers introduced Sela, there is a point to be made that Sela was a very popular villain.

This.

I thought her anti-Vulcan remarks to Spock were funny (both because of how they were written and how Denise delivered them). I got a big laugh out of "I *hate* Vulcans. I hate the logic, I hate the arrogance. VERY WELL!". I especially appreciated the way she nailed that "very well", but in concept and execution, the character was just weak.

I wouldn't go as far as Brutal Strudal, but I do think the existence of this character tainted "Yesterday's Enterprise" somewhat. I just cringe in that scene where Sela is explaining her existence to Picard. It's just such an unnecessary drag to learn that Yarr ultimately did have a rather meaningless death (killed by her forced husband due to her forced daughter ratting her out? wtf? :wtf:) after how beautifully "Yesterday's Enterprise" undid the damage of "Skin of Evil" by sending the character off in grand fashion.

There was no reason to see Denise Crosby again between "Yesterday's Enteprise" and "All Good Things...". I'd rather have her second death be a mystery (so we could dream that her and Castillo got together someday without knowing that's impossible) or have it implied that she died with the crew of the previous Enterprise to help establish the Klingon and Federation alliance.

At least "All Good Things..." made sure Denise Crosby's last appearance on the show was more dignified than it would have been if we hadn't seen her again after Sela. First Sela comes in with a ridiculously laboured backstory only to be thwarted with a pathetic amount of ease by her enemies twice. Not a very impressive character or character arc.
