Greenwood has portrayed the US President twice before in Thirteen Days and in National Treasure: Book of Secrets.

Do you think it is time for a third term in the 23rd century?

Isn't there not already a president of the federation I think Bruce Greenwood would make a good president what do you think

Geez, that freak? He failed to save Vulcan, put Earth in danger by giving the enemy the means to extract information from him that left Earth vulnerable, and you want to make him president?

:guffaw:

That's the funniest thing I've heard all day.

No, but only because i would like to see a lot more of him in the next film, and i don't think we would if he were President.

Sure, but more importantly than that, he should be the star of a spinoff series. either as the president ala the West Wing or 24 --IN SPACE!! Or as an instructer at the academy.

He should be in the same position Kirk was in during Wrath of Khan. Stuck behind a desk. Teaching cadets the difference between their ass and a hole in the ground. The plot would either be Stafleet Academy as the setting (they've already made those red cadet uniforms --why not use them on a weekly basis?) or a training mission goes wry forcing the rookie crew to shape up.

Or maybe he goes rogue like in TSFS. The point is...he's Bruce Greenwood! Bruce. Vul-kin'. Greenwood. Give him something to do! :luvlove:

I vote for No, but just because I can't see that being something that would happen so soon after... he was in ONE movie, and I doubt the next one will be *too* far into the future. Perhaps by the third or fourth movie, but not the second.

^ :guffaw:

As for Pike, no, he should stay an Admiral of the Fleet like he was. He doesn't seem like the political type.

And we have had human Federation presidents before (Hiram Roth from ST IV). Assuming ST XII gets political, we may have one again - just not Pike.

Does anyone know who, in the original timeline, is supposed to be president in 2259 (when XII will likely take place)? I know it's highly unlikely that the presidential line of succession is the same in the Abramsverse, but what the hell. Fun to speculate.

Not Pike, Instead Kirk as president.

Works like this, cadet Kirk come out of the academy, has one successful mission and is made captain of a major ship. In Star Trek twelve, Captain Kirk has one more successful mission and is made Presidet of the Federation.

Then, in XIII, he misses the Enterprise, gets impeached, and becomes Captain again. ;)

I'd like to see Pike become a recurring Admiral, like Necheyev and Ross were on TNG and DS9.

Pike can be the guy who sticks up for Kirk when everyone else thinks Kirk's lost his mind. If Starfleet ever thought Kirk went rogue (ala TSFS), Pike could help out Kirk from behind the scenes, slowing Starfleet Command down while Kirk saves the day and proves everyone he was right. Pike is Kirk's connection to the inside.

The novels Errand of Fury: Seeds of Rage and Vanguard: Harbinger have established that a Human male named Kenneth Wescott became Federation President (the youngest Federation President in history) at least as early as 2261. He served until 2269, throughout TOS Seasons One and Two, with another Human named Lorne McLaren serving after that for the remainder of TOS and possibly during TMP.

We also know from Articles of the Federation that a Trill female named Madza Bral served as Federation President about 150 years before 2380, and that, because of the presidency's four-year-terms, 2228 and 2232 were both election years. Either way, it's highly probable that Bral would have ben President during the attack on the U.S.S. Kelvin in 2233 at the film's opening.

As you noted, however, the Abrams Timeline may have an entirely different set of individuals serving as President after the Narada attack.

See my post here for more information about 23rd Century Federation Presidents from the Prime Timeline.

(For whatever it's worth, amusingly enough, ever since I read Seeds of Rage, I had always pictured Bruce Greenwood as President Wescott, based on his portrayal of President Kennedy in the film Thirteen Days -- long before he was ever announced to play Captain Pike in ST09. I always saw Wescott as a sort of Kennedy figure, and so to me it made sense to have one of the best cinematic Kennedies playing him.)

Much apologizings, I forgot that I already asked about the president thing. :alienblush:

That being said, I like the name 'Lorne McLaren'. Sounds almost as badass as you know who. :techman: So if they can use whatever president they like in ST XII, why not him? Besides, I'm running out of ways to get Vaughn Armstrong (my favorite actor) into the film, and that's as good a way as I can think of right now. ;)

Or they could also use a *real* 'Lorne' for the film...

Lorne Cardinal (played Sgt. Davis Quinton on Corner Gas)

Actually, it would be interesting to see Pike come back as a villain. You could get a lot of traction out of a Doctor Strangelove scenario where a pissed-off Admiral Pike decides to single-handedly trigger a war against the Romulans after what happened to him on the Narada.

As for Fed Presidents, if it has to be somebody we know, I would vote Sarek. Otherwise, we're better off inventing a whole new character specifically for that role.

I think that would be a pretty horrific violation of everything that was established about what kind of person Christopher Pike is in "The Cage," "The Menagerie," and ST09.

Let's just have his shuttle crash on Talos IV or something.

Having him as Federation President is such a stupid idea that if those two clowns who claim to be writing the film read it, they'll probably make it so.

What exactly was established about Pike in The Menagerie, other than the fact that his insurance plan sucks?

Not much was established in The Cage either except that he's as brilliant as he is volatile: a brilliant starship captain with a really bad temper. ST09 didn't establish much about Pike except that George Kirk is one of his heroes. (the same George Kirk who was killed by the same Romulan terrorists who, two decades later, oblierated the Vulcan Homeworld and then shoved a Centaurian Slug down his throat).

That would hardly contradict anything that was previously established about him, unless you find it hard to picture the same guy who put a phaser to a Talosian's head just to prove a point would have any qualms about glassing the Romulan Empire just to eliminate a potential threat to the Federation. Better developed and arguably more civilized Trek characters have done worse for shakier reasons.

Bruce Greenwood has said that he wants to still be Kirk's mentor in the next film. I don't think he would want to play Pike as a villain, and I definitely don't want to see him as one.

And neither Pike nor Sarek are political types, anyway. Pike's an officer, and Sarek's the ambassador. That's what they're good at, and it's what they should still be doing. The Federation President should be a new character. Ideally, one from the novels, 'cuz I think some of those presidents have cool names, as I said. ;)
