Absolutely not. Let's let this new cast stand on its own. No appearances from former Trek stars. No additional recycled Trek characters. No plots based around former Trek adventures. Let Trek 2016 celebrate 50 years of Star Trek by giving us something original but very Trekkian in nature.

No more time travel. It's played out. And please, please, no CGI Spock and the like. It just creeps me out when they try to bring back dead people. Nimoy was a faithful servent and Icon for Trek for many years. Let him rest.

I'd love if he was in it somehow...CGI or cutting room floor type of stuff would definitely work. I'd also settle for a mention...maybe that he's doing well on New Vulcan helping rebuild society there. Or they could go with the ongoing comics....last time Spock Prime was mentioned, he left and nobody knew where he was headed. Maybe the Enterprise crosses his path out in the middle of nowhere? One can hope.

As far as Shatner...I'd love for him to still be a part of it. At the very least a voice over at the end of the "These are the voyages...." speech.

It is coming out on the 50th anniversary so it would be entirely appropriate to place a tribute at the end of the film while the creds are rolling. It could salute the TOS crew and pay a special tribute to Kelley, Doohan and Nimoy. It could even include a voice over by Shatner. But I wouldn't count on that....

I loved that Nimoy was on hand in the 2009 film to usher in the changes and pass the baton, as it were. However, his STID appearance did nothing for the story and it just seemed like a trapdoor for nuSPock to keep asking how things turn out. I really felt that, if there wasn't a really important reason for Spock Prime to be there, he shouldn't have been. And he didn't tell young Spock anything that really helped. Unless he needed Spock Prime to say "punch him REALLY hard!"

Now Nimoy is gone. No reason to squeeze him in posthumously. The dedication is a great idea, other than than, since he can't really figure into the plot (being dead and stuff), leave him out. I agree, enough fixation with the past. Move forward.

He was talking to anybody who understood the situation well enough to ask 'why doesn't he help the people he knows are going to die in upcoming emergency's with his knowledge of the future?' The in-universe explanation is he took a vow not to do that.

Of course the real reason, imo, is they want to keep the door open to recycle those plots.

I wonder if Orci's original idea was to return Spock Prime to his timeline and somehow have Kirk be there when he returned. I guess we'll never know now.

He shouldn't even have been in the second one.

Calling Old Spock on distant Vulcan colony for useless advice instead of calling Starfleet Command right around the corner asking for help.
