Should Maywheather have died?

GalaxyClass1701

In the epsiode Dead Stop the alien space station Kidnapped Mayweather should they have killed off the character.

I say yes because imo hes is the weakest charcter in Trek history!

I don't think he was bad. I just don't think people expect too much from that character. I would not kill him off just as I would not kill off Chekov.

No. And here's why:
Travis was given an interesting backstory with a lifetime of experience living in space and dealing with aliens and then the morons in charge of the show treated his character like he just fell off the turnip truck.

Maybe because he is a terrible actor?

I don't think they should have killed him off. But they definitely needed to get rid of the character. I would just have him decide to return to his family business, that way he's still around (maybe he could come back for a few episodes later) but he's off the show for the long-term.

Of course, if the writers had done ANYTHING to make him an interesting character, this all would be moot.

Great point! They didn't really have anyepisodes that were centered around his so called amazing piloting skills.

I understand that Anthony gave a credible performance in a film he starred in following his stint on Enterprise. And for the record, I didn't see it because it fit my taste in films.

Hi,

Actually he got to show off his piloting skills when maintaining station while upside down with another star fleet ship in season 4. When they had to get Trip over to shutdown/reboot their warp drive after it was attacked by a virus. Can't remeber the name of the episode. Near the end of season 4 though.

The Catwalk. There were other episodes as well that featured his piloting skills, even if they did not center around that fact.

The one I saw, I'm Through With White Girls is an hysterical film, and he's terrific in it. It's very Gen Y, not everyone's cup of tea (although I'm more like Gen Q, myself), but I recommend it.

If only he had died like he was supposed to do in Twilight. Damn that evil reboot button!

Doesn't a character have to be alive first in order to die?

He started off as a very interesting fellow during the initial conception of the series (a very experienced space veteran who would occasionally clash with Archer IIRC), but by the time the cameras started rolling, there really wasn't too much left of Mayweather other than a young space chauffeur. I like Anthony Montgomery, but he may have been too young for the role as it was originally written. Montgomery's age was reportedly a factor in having Mayweather be an ensign rather than a lieutenant...

No, you don't kill him, you kill the writers who don't know how to write FOR him.

TBH, I don't think I would even care whether he was dead or alive. I'm not sure it would even matter.
