We can all think about the jerks our children married who we have been at war with for the last 15 years, and probably for the next 15 years as well?

If we're going to bury our kids due to natural causes within 5 to 10 years of excreting them, well, they could really marry the worst asshole in the universe (yes, it's me, you're funny) and that's doable.

Doesn't that make life a hell of a lot more constitutionable?

The effect of Birthday Presents and Christmas presents does wrack up financially over the generations, gods forbid I should eat their bad cooking (yes men cook too, don't be so sexist.), listen to their foolish political opinions, or endure anything that proves the existence of sports.

But this current protest was about the awful choices in life partners my actual "loved ones" make.

If this vermin is clinging on to my life as well no matter how tangentially, I should be afforded veto powers, if they can't promise to die almost immediately.

Or did you win the lottery Teacake, and all your in-laws are tolerable?

When Voyager was lost in the Delta Quadrant and we met Captain Janeway, do you think the character should have been a mother?

She was around 40 years old at the time. Engaged to Mark. Does this make sense? I understand life spans are longer in the 24th century, but are child bearing years extended? Is it possible to fight a natural desire to reproduce? If we found out 20 years on that she had a child that was raised by the father, would our perceptions change? (Kirk/David)

Can a woman have it all? A career and a family in the 24th century?

You know, I'm going to blow your mind here and say even now, some woman actually choose NOT to have a child. I know right? Who can believe it but I assure you it is true. ;)

Yep - when I got married, and we were moving into a larger house - people nudged me and said "need the room for a nursery" and I said "no a library".

There would be a force field over the top of the bassinet so the baby didn't fly through the air when everyone was falling out of their seats during alien nebula tachyon events.

Oh pish posh, Janeway would swaddle the the little runt, and then the other little runt at the operations station would get jealous that no one was swaddling him to his chair.

Certainly not. IMO, motherhood is not something she is suited for. She is suited for a life of duty with no other distractions. While I personally question some of the decisions she made as a Captain, she was a strong leader who wasn't afraid to make decisions. She is well suited for the Admiralty, with no kids.

So you don't think Admirals in Starfleet should have children?

Not Janeway, no.

I agree.

I say not on the series and/or in the Delta Quadrant, but after she got back home, Janeway would be free to do anything, Admiral or not.

Oh please, Janeway could handle a kid on one hip and a phaser rifle on the other. This is one tough chick.

As for admirals having children, it would be far easier for an admiral to have a family than for a captain. Captains are always on the go and sometimes they're away from home for months. It would be hard enough to maintain a relationship, let alone have children. Admirals are mostly stationed in one place and have more regular hours. I could see Janeway making it home and having a family, if she so desired. :)

I wouldn't be surprised if some don't seek the admiralty just for those reasons.

And yeah there is no reason why Janeway wouldn't make a fine mother. It's hilarious that you get people saying she's not sexy because "too maternal" and saying she shouldn't have kids.

We wouldn't expect Picard to be bouncing a baby on his knee while he sits in the captain's seat, the kid would be in childcare.
