Should I go see STID in 3-D

Is Star Trek Into Darkness worth seeing in 3-D?

Just wondering if Sta Trek Into Darkness is a must-see in 3-D.

i have an 8 year old and a 2 year old, and wondering if it's worth it to see it in 3-D

Most of the movie times that are optimal for me are when the 3 D movies show (the non-3D are too early or too late).

I saw it in IMAX 3D. I will say that I am generally not a fan of 3D, in some cases it really detracts from the movie. However in the case of STID I think it enhanced the movie and was done very well. I am planning on seeing it again Sunday and it will be in 3D. I will have plenty of chances to see it in 2D when I buy the DVD

I hate 3D but the movie was lovely in it. Never too obtrusive (forgot about it after a while) with some very nice effects. NO clunky pop-up book scenes like in The Phantom Menace.

I've seen it in 3D and 2D. While I have no desire to see it in 3D again (it costs more) it impressed me and has made me more receptive to 3D films.

Also why would you take a 2 year old to see this movie?!

My experience with the 3D was not overwhelming. Some shots, especially the space shots, looked pretty darn cool in 3D. But I just as frequently found it to be distracting (especially when an out-of-focus object was in the foreground). The 3D also definitely did not look "natural". It also felt like the moments that should have been awesome in 3D, popping out of the screen and all that... meh, didn't really do it.

I don't think it'd be a bad thing to see it in 3D. In fact, I'd say it's worth seeing in 3D so that you can see it on an IMAX screen (if that's available in your area). If it's more convenient for you, then do that. But I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to see it either.

I wouldn't recommend bringing your kids. It's pretty scary (and complicated plot-wise) for an 8-year-old (although obviously you know your kid better than me), and I think it would be too loud (and definitely too violent and scary) for a 2-year-old. But YMMV.

I saw the film today in 3D, but only because the "2D" auditorium was sold out. This was the first film I've seen in 3D in a number of years.

I was wearing the provided 3D glasses, but found the 3D effects didn't add anything at all to the film. Perhaps the most notable use of 3D effects was in one scene involving flying through some debris in space. I think the 3D version is somewhat hard to watch, because only things in the foreground are ever in focus.

I'm not a big fan of 3D in general, but I thought the 3D for this was particularly dreadful. A couple of the action sequences were almost unwatchable for me - couldn't focus on anything!

My recommendation is YES, see it in 3D. Very happy I saw it in 3D first.

Of course YOUR mileage may vary but I loved the 3D, it was well done and added much to the film IMO. There were plenty of times during the film when I realized it would not have looked as good in 2D. That said, now that I have seen it in 3D I can watch a 2D version with callbacks to the best 3D scenes.

SPOILER AHEAD...

One highlight was when the ship goes to warp and the nacelles literally stretch into the background.

I loved the 3d. It was especially great for the space shots and made it all the more thrilling when you see the ships going to warp.

I just keep going to see 3D films and I can't work out why - they're never worth it.

I'm jI think I'm just scared that one will be and I'll miss out...

I saw it in IMAX 3D and 2D. It's fine to save yourself a few bucks. There were a couple of gimmicky "come'n at you" moments that were a little too obvious in the 3D experience that don't distract you in the 2D version. I might see it a 3rd time in Real 3D just to see how it all compares.
