But you really never know, especially with HP. And maybe Spider Man, all depends. Transformers is a no-brainer (literally).
It's the second part of the last HP book, so it'll be big. The last HP movie.

2012 is a little far out, but expect Avengers, possibly Spider-man 4 (since they're supposedly filming them back-to-back), Madagascar 3, Beverly Hills Cop IV, Pirates 4, Ghostbuster 3, maybe the next Batman movie. These are not all confirmed, but most likely.

I hear you - I definitely want them to do it right, but I also want them to do it right now!
At least we'll have the DVD of the first film to watch until the new one.
Trek XII should definitely try to avoid Spider-Man 4 -- even though reception for the last one wasn't too favourable, I tend to think that it will still be a pretty big hit.
June might be better... it's anyone's guess how Green Lantern will do, and Kung-Fu Panda is a completely different target audience, so it might do okay against that. I didn't even know they were making a sequel to Cars -- I didn't think there was much of a clamour for that.
July looks like it could offer some fierce competition, so Trek should probably steer clear of opening in that month. I'm curious as to whether or not Transformers 3 will actually be released in 2011; Michael Bay hasn't committed to doing it yet (in fact, he's hinted that he wants to do something completely different and will pass on Transformers 3), but if the studio does want him back for it, they'd probably have a better chance of securing him if they push the film back to 2012.
As for 2012... well, until we get a clearer idea of what the release schedule looks like, I'm not going to speculate on what might be best for Trek.

June 2011 looks good. It will take some getting used to, but at this point I think that most movies would do better to avoid opening around the same time as Trek, not the other way around.
For example, I'm sure Spiderman 4 will do alright for itself, but there is hardly the excitement surrounding those movies that once had been the case. As long as the sequel doesn't open right on top of Transformers 3, I think it will do well.

Pixar has avoided doing sequels just for the sake of money, which is why this is their first non-Toy Story sequel. I hope that the main reason is a good story and not because Cars has turned into one of Disney's most lucrative merchandising sources.
Monsters, Inc. is also supposed to get a sequel somewhere down the road.
Despite its faults (which were mainly the result of meddling by the producers/studio), Spider-man 3 made $900 million. I think there is enough good will from the first two films for people to get passed the third one. That was the case with Wolverine...the problem there was that it just ended up being even worse than X3 and after a big start it piddled out domestically, but still made $360 million worldwide.

if TREK 12 is any good, and even better than TREK 11, I see it performing like DARK KNIGHT did, just not as big. DARK KNIGHT dwarfed BATMAN BEGINS. We will never know if Ledgers death was part of what made KNIGH so big (I think it was)...but regardless. I think TREK 12 will do better than TREK11. More UHURA UNDERWEAR scenes will help it do just that!

You shouldn't complain about that in a discussion surrounding Star Trek 11 and 12.

I've said this for a while now. Not that I'm complaining, especially regarding Star Trek, but I can't think of a major Hollywood blockbuster of the past five or six or even more years that wasn't based on an existing franchise.
Not sure why most people in here are thinking STXII is a lock to be even bigger than this one. I wouldn't say thats true at all. I certainly hope it is, but I'm not certain.
