Should Enterprise visit Talos IV?

There's no reason for the writers to retread stories we are already familiar with.

Coming up with new ideas is a very good thing.

Well... you have to have the girl. Vina's presence is what drives the entire story.

It's possible to tell the story of Talos IV without any of the original characters involved. Of course it would be a different story but that's what we should be looking forward to, isn't it?

You have to have something logical at the center of the story. If you throw out everything what's the point in even using Talos IV to begin with? What are the motivations of the Talosians if not to save themselves by breeding a new race to live on the surface on their decimated world?

Let Orci & Kurtzman go urinate in some other corner of the Trek universe.

Maybe they should name a planet in the next film "Talos IV", and make sure it's totally incompatible with the TOS version, just to keep the haters busy until STXIII.

Why are you a "hater" if you dislike something? Like it or not TPTB connected this film to the Prime universe (and left us a sweet valentine to boot). Which means it is part of the greater whole and every-bit as inbounds for criticism as any other Trek production. :p

It was meant to be a joke.

I have nothing against people who dislike the film at all and criticism and snide comments are fine. I reserve "hater" for those people who are still, a year+ later, trolling the same arguments about the film as they were when it was released, usually involving Delta Vega, Romulus blowing up, the Kelvin not being an exact recreation of the 1964 TOS pilot set and so on. And I mean the same people saying the same things over and over at extreme length, lunatic style.

I think this is just a symptom of the current production conditions we are living under. This film is the only new live-action Trek in the last five years and we're still two years away from the next film.

Sooo... the same people (lovers/haters) are going to be repeating the same points ad nauseum until June of 2012. :guffaw:

Some of the pressure would have probably been alleviated if the four Abramsverse novels scheduled for this year hadn't been cancelled.

According to Mempry Alpha, The Cage took place in 2254 and Kirk entered the Academy in 2255 in the latest movie.

Doesn't mean that Pike & Spock wet to Talos though.

I got the feeling they taught at the academy. Besides, the Narada's arrival delayed the launch of the Enterprise by 13yrs.

They could have been finishing up a year at the Academy after a mission to Talos on another ship. Or not. We just don't know one way or the other. However, it is possible.

to me talso four has already happened and what we are seeing in the movie is a pike who already has gone through that.
people forget that at the end of the cage pike has gotten back his "edge" "mojo" or whatever one would like to call it.

^Maybe this Pike never went to Rigel and lost his mojo in the first place.

Or maybe he did go, and liberated Gaila (and her lookalike from the deleted scene) from a life of Orion slavery?

I can totally see him brainwashing her with "join Starfleet Academy!" speeches the whole trip back to Earth .

Yes, I think Khan should commandeer the Enterprise and make a visit to Talos IV, where he does battle with a Gorn riding on the back of a giant space ameoba and meets his end when he gets inbetween a herd of tribbles and a pile of quadrum triticale.

nuKirk meet nunKhan

Sounds like a good topic for a fanfic. Nun Khan indeed! :D

I think they should go to Talos Four. I never mind seeing some of the original plots revisited or mentioned. I don't think they should refilm it line for line with the new actors, but a nod to the original series is always nice.

What if they "did a Delta Vega" and called a totally different (and incompatible) planet "Talos IV"? It would drive the continuity nuts crazy, but I actually think it would be a neat tribute to TOS if nuKirk and co landed on a namesake planet in each new film.
