It's possible to tell the story of Talos IV without any of the original characters involved. Of course it would be a different story but that's what we should be looking forward to, isn't it?

Why are you a "hater" if you dislike something? Like it or not TPTB connected this film to the Prime universe (and left us a sweet valentine to boot). Which means it is part of the greater whole and every-bit as inbounds for criticism as any other Trek production.![]()

I got the feeling they taught at the academy. Besides, the Narada's arrival delayed the launch of the Enterprise by 13yrs.According to Mempry Alpha, The Cage took place in 2254 and Kirk entered the Academy in 2255 in the latest movie.
Doesn't mean that Pike & Spock wet to Talos though.
