Should ENT Have Been an Alternate Reality Series from the Start?

^I would certainly accept that Season 4 of ENT felt more like a prequel to Star Trek than the first 3 seasons did. But then again, the first few seasons still had Klingons, Andorians, Tellarites and Vulcans and a direct connection to Cochrane. So it was clearly set in the ST universe.

The problem was, as I've said and others have said, in the execution and the writing. Personally, I wish Manny Coto had been involved from day 1. And yes, I'd like to have had it like season 4 from the start and bypassed the whole TCW arc.
 
The problem with season four was that it seemed to be checking off boxes on a list. The first two seasons connection were handled in a less obvious manner. They blended the continuity nods with new stuff. A prequel shouldn't be a continuity checklist.
 
^I can see that point. But basically, what it boils down to is that S4 entertained me more than S1 - 3 (though 3 was pretty good).
