Shirtless Fencing Sulu

The Wormhole

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
So all the while we've been discussing things from TOS that should be included in Trek XI, most notably SPOCK SHOUTING ABOUT THE WOMEN!! And yet, we've missed a rather important thing: Sulu fencing shirtless, like he did in The Naked Time. Think about it. Have a scene where any character walks into the Enterprise's gym and sees Sulu there, shirtless, practicing fencing.

Or even better, remember a few months back there were rumours that Sulu would get into a sword fight with one of Nero's Romulan goons? What if it's a shirtless sword fight? Sulu and the Romulan meet. They nod heads. They rip their shirts off and then pull their swords out and fight. I think there's potential for something kick ass here. What do you think?

I think the pics reported here must be from the very beginning of the face-off, then -- before the real, shirtless showdown. Anyone see the head-nod?

Just a trivial aside...

Takei was on the Howard Stern show recently, and someone had referred to the time they oiled Sulu up for the sword fight. George made it known that was his own sweat, not oil.

They were only rehearsing in those pictures. They left their shirts on for rehearsals because it was cold. That's my take on it anyway.

Ewww.

I have a story to go with that...

...back in my entry-level working days (about 20 years ago) a friend/co-worker and I were doing some manual work at our New York City Office (we were putting together office cubicles). We built up quite a sweat and got into the elevator to go to another floor in the office building.

We were drenched and dripping with sweat when the elevator stopped on another floor and a well-dressed (and pretty) young woman entered the small-ish elevator cab. Upon seeing us, she asked, "oh, is it raining outside?" My co-worker answered very matter-of-factly, "Nah -- it's sweat".

She didn't say anything else to us after that.

Oh, yeah!

The sword fight, which was quickly followed by the sword swallowing.

...Oh, a gay joke at the expense of George Takei, how original!

Okay, there's no need to draw your phasers guys... it was a tasteless joke... an attempt at humor... a small attempt.

Their swords or their "swords," wink wink nudge nudge?

WE MUST KNOW DAMMIT! :scream:
I finally found a reason to boycott this movie.
Sulu and a cute guy MUST pull out their 'swords' on-screen or I'll boycott!!!
Or at least put it on the Director's Cut DVD... I'll go to the movie, but demand my money back if it's not on the DVD!

Why must the other guy be cute? I say make him handsome in a rugged and manly way.

Manly, but not rugged. You can shave and dress up and even moisturise and still be a real man.

Cute is better, so all the girls will be confused about who to cheer for during the fight.

For decades I had no idea George Takei is gay. And I found him very attractive.

Now that I know, I don't care. He's still attractive, and from what I've read, he is still an incredibly nice person.

And I bet he'd still look terrific shirtless, running around with a sword!

George was always a very nice person, from the first time we talked (he grilled me actually) and throughout my Hollywood ordeal... he was always charming and a good friend. I don't think that will ever change.

Is there some way I can get the short version of the 'Hollywood ordeal' without derailing this thread?
