Last week, I brought you the high-resolution scans of the Ships of the Star Fleet: Volume One / Revised technical manual (See: https://www.cygnus-x1.net/links/lcars/sotsf-vol1.php).

This week, I'm happy to bring you the follow-up of that great technical manual - the Ships of the Star Fleet:
Akyazi-Class Perimeter Action Ships (See: https://www.cygnus-x1.net/links/lcars/sotsf-akyazi.php).

Electronic scans and PDF copies of this technical manual have been floating around the internet for years, however those versions were poorly produced, lacked color (where available) and had many cropped images within. The celebrate this technical manual , I've carefully scanned it at 400dpi to bring you the best possible details of the amazing schematics within.

As most fans know, this (and so many other) technical manual came from the genius of Todd Allan Guenther whose other works include the aforementioned Ships of the Star Fleet: Volume One, Booklet of General Plans U.S.S. Caracal CC-750, Official Blueprints - Cargo/Tug Class Starships, and many others.

At the very least, when you post these works on your website, you should ALWAYS include the name of the author in your announcement and everywhere else. Your site gets the traffic but they did the work. If you don’t know the name, take the time to find it. We live in 2019. It isn’t that hard.

I have always credited the people (yourself included) who are responsible for creating these wonderful pieces of art. Todd Allan Guenther is credited right on the page itself; not buried at the bottom or in a small font, but right at the top of the page underneath the cover image (as it should be).

So perhaps before you accuse me of not giving credit where credit is due, you should check out the page first.
 
I am pointing out you did not credit him here, in your posts on his books. That’s what “everywhere else” means.

You take these things and admittedly give them new life by dealing in the shady business of posting someone’s work without permission, that itself is in many cases a violation of someone else’s trademark. God bless you for having the courage and temerity to enjoy the traffic that ensues. Just credit the work when you mention it.
 
I've always thought this one of the very best fandom Trek designs. It was really weird seeing it in the Star Trek: Legacy videogame. Did Todd Allan Guenther ever comment on his design being used in an official Trek product?

Let us say that was one of several things that cleared the legal hurdles which had been put in the way of its further distribution.

In other words, like Franz Joseph’ and his works, Guenther owns the copyrights to most of the material in those books.

Let @Michael make the final decision , but I do find your giving credit in that manner a bit ambiguous.

Fair enough - it was an honest oversight so I've edited the original post to properly provide credit where credit is due.

Also, you've mentioned 'traffic' to my website as if that has some bearing here. If you're under the impression that I make some financial gain from posting these works and driving traffic to my site, I can assure you that is far from the case.

In the 15+ years of running Cygnus-X1.Net, I have poured thousands of dollars into it. And while I have a few unobtrusive ads placed at the bottom of each page, I can assure you that the pennies I make from those ads in no way offset the cost that goes into running the site.

This is a labor of love for the fans and artists. Nothing more.

To be completely honest, I'm not quite sure what I think of such threads and whether I want or can make any kind of decision about them. On the one hand, I'm glad that people have the opportunity to (re)discover the old fan works of bygone times, and I see that many people seem to enjoy it.

On the other hand, I'm really unsure whether I think it's right to post the work of someone whose permission can't be obtained. Of course, in most cases these are works that were created in a legal grey area to begin with, because they weren't officially licensed. But they are still the creative work and intellectual property of fan artists just like they exist here. And as such, I would like them to be treated with due respect, i.e. asked for permission and named as authors when published. It is good to see that you always seem to comply with this on your site, @Jag2112, which I very much welcome. I do agree, however, that it would be cooler to credit them here, too.

Then again there seem to be reproductions on your site of officially licensed and still commercially available releases as well (like this one), which I feel is not the way to go, as it could potentially get the Trek BBS in hot water with the rights-holders should you decide to promote something like that or even newer stuff here.

In summary, I would like to ask you to only post material here that has the explicit consent of the author and that could not lead to problems with the copyright holders. Thank you! :)
