Ship Classes

Hey, I'm pretty new to Star Trek. I got hooked on the original series because of youtube and I was wondering where I could find a list of of the different Ship Classes and what they are specifically for. Also, I keep seeing 'cannon' on peoples avatars.... could someone explain this please?

Those are pretty sweet sites still. I asked something similar not too long ago.

Any time I need inspiration for a kitbash idea, Starship Schematics is one of my stops.

Heck, when I was starting the Artemis there in my avatar, I used the site to check the Ariel and other delta ideas to make sure I didn't copy it 100%.
