...Still oddly low, when we supposedly have the easily recognizable humans, Klingons, Vulcans, Bolians and Betazoids take five slots, and so many nonhuman species look like humans (and no doubt non-Bolian ones look Bolian, etc.). Were all the random aliens and mixeds (say, "Eye of Beholder") having shore leave that day?

But the starting point in casting for Trek is that there are lots of humans on the starships we follow. This might be evidence for this being the in-universe reality of the issue, too.

Even if they meant species, as of that point in time, that's still got to include a Betazoid, a Klingon, at least 1 Vulcan, a butt ton of Humans, & could also possibly even include an El-Aurian, an Android, & potentially the Bolian barbers. That's not leaving a whole lot of room for more diversity, seeing as all of the above are mostly just one individual representative that we've seen.

I'd have given anything to see them just drop some green paint on somebody, just so I'd know there was an Orion kicking around or something. They did get better at it later on, like the hair dying character in the salon in Data's Day, or that keyboardist in Riker's jazz band from Second Chances, etc...

Go easy on Picard, guys...the -D is a big ship; during roll call, missing a few (hundred) people here and there is a common occurrence.
