Your hair on your head and face both grow to a genetically predetermined length and then fall out, just most people never get that far and some people can grow their hair extremely long, we're talking metres. There's an upper limit for everyone though.
B vitamins will make your hair (and nails) grow stronger, but of course you're right (I just never thought of this before), your stress level is also a factor!Your diet and sleep schedule have more impact on the way your hair grows than how often you shave it.
