I just watched this for the first time. How DID Janeway know where Chakotay hid the cider?

Hmm..that is an interesting question..one that I've been asking myself ever since I first saw that episode. I think maybe her younger counterpart had something to do with her knowing.

If all their memories were wiped clean as stated they would, the only thing I can think of is she took a guess and got it right...showing that from the enemies they once were that was shown a few minutes ago in the episode, they've come so close she can guess some of his secret moves...even though the idea wasn't his.

Or maybe it was just the writers way to mess with our heads and have continued debate on the question eight years after it aired?

Didn't younger Janeway overhear Icheb telling Chakotay he never told "future" Janeway where he hid the cider?

I always took it to imply that the events of this episode were part of a predestination paradox.
