Shatner's ST Memories, ST Movie Memories Vs Up 'Til Now

I was wondering something that maybe those of you who have read these books could help me with. I'd like to get all of these, but I'm not sure which one to start with.

I'm a Shatner fan, not just Shatner-as-Kirk fan, but I'm mostly into Star Trek, of course. So, in his new book, is there something he adds to his previous 2 books, ST Memories & ST Movie Memories? Or is it the exact same info? Does he write a lot about his friendship with Nimoy, and about the loss of De Kelley in Up 'Til Now? About how much of the book is related to Trek in particular? I'd like to get the most up-to-date stuff, but of course it wouldn't be as detailed as the other 2.

Thankful for any help I can get.

Cheers

The new book does not overlap the other two much at all. It's about his entire life, of which Star Trek was a relatively short time. It covers in detail his early career and kind of glosses over Star Trek, then covers his later career. It has a lot of focus on his personal life.

That said, they can be read in any order, but I would recommend the publication order, because it reflects a growth in him. "Up Till Now" is written by a much more mature and self-aware man than "Star Trek Memories".

So I would recommend:

1. Star Trek Memories
2. Star Trek Movie Memories
3. Up Till Now

I listened to audio book versions of both ST Memories and ST Movie Memories (read by the Shat, of course and alot of fun to listen to him just tell you Trek stories on the ol ipod ) and I read "Up till Now".
From what I remember, there is very little repeated in the three books.
Up till Now really goes into alot of his life starting from when he was very young and spans his entire lifetime with Trek being just a small but very important part. He actually jumps around quite a bit in the new book and it has a strange disjointed style at times, but it's very cool. I was amazed at all the stuff he's done and experienced that I never knew about.
I'd say get all three and read them in order. ST Memories, ST Movie Memories and Up Till Now. There will be minor little repeats of things, but certainly not enough to annoy you and you'll really get the whole picture and alot of entertainment value. :bolian:

If you like lots of hilarious adoration in your TV star biographies, try to find the early "Shatner: Where No Man", which was written by early ST novelists, Sondra Marshak & Myrna Culbreath (with Shatner's participation).

Thanks for posting this question. I had been wondering about this myself. I own the Memories books and find them very enjoyable and interesting to read. I also have both of Nimoy's books, and while there's less humor in them, they are well written and very engaging.

I haven't read the books by Takei, Nichols, or Koenig.

Thank you for the replies guys, I just ordered Star Trek Memories from ebay, cost me 1.88 bucks, the shipping cost me over 30 though.

$30? For shipping a book? From where, the Moon?

Haha, well no, from Colorado to Sweden. That's the main thing about ebay for international bidders, the shipping is almost always the more expensive part. Some things are amazingly cheap, stuff that makes you drop the jaw. But when you add the shipping to it, the total price you've paid to get it is not so cheap anymore.

I got an email from the seller yesterday though, he/she said that they could probably send it to me cheaper while still well packed in a flat rate envelope.
