Shatner, Takei and Koenig Back Together Again!

If Jerry Lewis & Dean Martin can kiss and make up, can Shatner & Takei be far behind? Sinatra made that happen, maybe Howard Stern can make this happen.

Am I the only one who thinks that George and Walter look absolutely miserable?
At a con last year my friend was assigned to watch over Koeing and said he was a tired, angry old man who absolutely didn't want to be there. I think if it were the old days and it was just an appearance fee he'd probably not bother attending any longer, but now the actors make bank on the autographs, etc., so too much cash to pass up...

I saw Koenig at a con years ago (like 30) and he was - distant and didn't seem thrilled to be there. I've since read that he is somewhat of an introvert (in spite of being an actor). That alone may make it not as much fun for him as it could be if he was extroverted.

Interestingly enough, I met Walter Koenig while walking down the hall after his presentation when he was a guest at the convention in Denver on his 50th birthday, also 30 years ago, and when I asked him why he was walking down the main hallway instead of down the back, he said he wanted to meet the fans. He struck me at the time as someone who, while shy, enjoyed being around people.

Now, 30 years is a long time. Many things happen in 30 years, for him his son's death among them. These things build up, and have an effect. I wouldn't be surprised to find out his son's death has caused him to become depressed to some degree. It would me, if I were in his position.

Dang. I wish him well. Takei seems to enjoy life. As for looking bad, well, they are old dudes. We see them in their youthful guise all the time, then you see them as they are: a bit jarring.

I was at this event and yes this picture was wonderful to see. However, as for the comments about Walter, I found him pleasant. He was the only guest to have a chair in front of his autograph desk and he was taking time to talk to all of his fans.

He did seem a little bored during the panel he shared with George though and he wore a baseball cap throughout it which put his face in shadow, meaning my photos of Walter could have been of anyone.

However, George did tell a story of an incident where Walter pranked George by telling him that he, James Doohan and Nichelle had all received bonuses for appearing at a convention years ago. While George was recounting how angry he was getting with the organiser, Walter had such a cheeky smirk on his face.

I had a roommate who was in theatre and I got to meet a lot of actors (none of them famous, though some of them had had encounters with biggish names) and a considerable number (if not an outright majority) of actors are actually shy and introverted. I've discussed this with several of them (including my roommate--among the shy ones) and almost all of them told me acting allows them to escape their own identity and while they play a part, they don't have to focus on themselves. It's when they have to be themselves, rather than a character, in front of people, that their shyness returns. De Niro is quite shy, for example (belying his various famous characters). I've seen him as a panelist at a local film festival and addressing the media throng, as himself, seemed about as pleasant to him as having root canals done to live teeth without anesthetic.

I've always seen both sides of their argument to be honest but when The Shat always states he doesn't know the man I feel he does harbour some animosity to George even if it's in retaliation to some of the glib comments he's made about the star of the show!
I don't think that's animosity. I think that's common sense. Would you make an effort to get to know someone who's been making glib comments about you for 20-30 years?

It's not at all uncommon for actors to be introverted. I'd say it's more typical than not, actually. Acting can give introverted people a controlled outlet to express themselves.

Exactly. I've been doing stand-up comedy for about 5 1/2 years, and I typically get more nervous about unscripted interactions with people before or after my set than I do about my stage time.

The fact is The Shat does know George, maybe never very well but they rehearsed together then they fought in some shows and must have shared the odd joke when a scene went wrong!
