Shatner should be in it - Random News People on the Internet

he will never be dead , as long as we remember him.;)

Here in the UK, we all thought Jade Goody was dead until they decided to make a fucking musical about her life.

So anythings possible.

wtf is jane goody?

The first time I read that post I thought it said Jane Goodall......LOL!

Jane Goody was a young woman who was on Big Brother and found out she had term. cancer and then had her life filmed (the rest of it) for a reality show until she died recently.

If the new PTB say The Shat could not fit into the story without feeling shoe-horned then that's good enough for me. (;-)

We're in a New-Verse where anything may not happen the same way it did before, Kirk may and probably won't die on Veridian III in this verse so he can potentially be in a future sequel. Just wait for it.

I have to tell you ...I didn't even know he was friggin dead until recently! I haven't seen any of the movies after Search for Spock -- I know it's shameful...

But that's food for thought...hmmmm interesting point you bring up there

Yup.

Her life was followed before/during/the end of her annoying celebrity life.

Every paper, still to this day, has at least one story about it.

She had cancer, it was in the papers all the time.

When she died youd think it was a mourning for fucking royalty or something.

In this instance, i say make a musical for the other 30 million other cancer sufferers the world over.

Dude, the death of Kirk was a massive event, how'd you miss a thing like the death of Kirk, pointless though it was, Kirk fuckin' died, man. ;)

I remember it in papers and mags in '94. Kirks death was a major passing, it was like the death of a president, only more important and more pointless. ;)

her name was Jade.

Is this the view of the mainstream?

It's the view of a talking head on FOX. 'Nuff said.

The folks at FOX do realize that this matter has been discussed for quite a while now, and that the movie is actually being shown in final form?

This has turned into a dead horse that's been beaten, then put through Shatner's "Return" series of books to be beat to death many more times (and the poor horse didn't even agree to kill itself in Generations!)
Sadly, most of the people at FOX News do not even know the 1960s are over and TOS was cancelled. They will probably start a campaign to save the original show next week. :cardie:

They should do a time altered story where the Enterprise becomes a pirate ship on the high seas of some other planet.....then put Shatner in there. He'd be a swashbuckler.

i hate to sound redundant, but as much as I love the Shat, there are too many reasons not to ever include him as Kirk again (notice that leaves the door open to play a different role....)

1.) JAMES TIBERIUS KIRK IS DEAD...D-E-A-D...DEAD! He was killed long before the events in Countdown (2387) which set up ST 09..Shatner can write all the novels he wants about resurrecting the character, but God bless you Bill, you read the Generations script, you cashed your pay check, so you know damn well Kirk is dead!

2.) Like or hate the new Enterprise bridge set, it looks like it cost a pretty penny to construct, so unfortunately that is just too much money worth of scenery for Bill to chew on!

3.) I love Mr. Nimoy, I think he is an accomplished actor, photographer, rabbi, or whatever...seriously, he's one of the greats...but he's old...and so is Shatner...and coincidentally, the next film in the series will be Star Trek XII...do we really want to take a cue from the Simpsons and subtitle it "Star Trek XII: So Very Tired"????

4.) William Shatner is a great guy (supposedly), but his ego is much larger than the Hobus supernova (see "Countdown), and he would not even settle for a cameo...he wanted a big part..Nimoy big...Pine big....why shell out millions just to please the fanboys AND Mr. Shatner if the story works just fine without him, thank you...that;s money that could go towards a kick ass sequel!!

5.) Probably the most important point: The great thing about movies is, once you get past the previews and Movie Trivia, there's no interruptions...do you really want to watch a film that has the Transformed Ham pitching for Priceline.com or Smith & Hassler every 15 freaking minutes? If you doubt Shat would do this, read his new autobiography Up Til Now..

Mr. Shatner, I love you, you are one of the greats...a truly unique actor who will ALWAYS be James Tiberius Kirk.

But this is not your Trek....

Without William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy's unforgettable performances as James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock, it is highly unlikely that there would have ever been a TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT, or Star Trek XI.

It all starts with them. The lack of respect that these two sometimes get escapes me.

Nimoy gets less flak because he generally keeps his mouth shut. Shatner, less so, because his is mouth is always moving.

Some new kid will play Kirk in this next movie, and I'm sure he'll do a fine job. I seriously doubt, however, that he will do as much to solidify that character in pop-culture history as William Shatner did. If Pine succeeds, it is because he stands on the shoulders of giants.

Few ingredients in the Star Trek recipe are as polarizing as William Shatner.

The reasons to love him and/or hate him seem nearly infinite.

Regardless, his contributions cannot be denied.

Whichever Star Trek is your favorite, you owe William Shatner for that, on some level. If that's too hard for you to accept, then you should probably ask yourself why.

Either way, it's the truth. :techman:

Shatner may not be in Star Trek XI, but there would be no Star Trek XI without him.

Um, duh. One guy has been playing the role for over 40 years. The other will have played the role for 2 hours, 6 minutes. One got to play with a character going through his prime, his mid-life crisis, old age and death. The other just gets his developing years.

Not exactly a fair comparison.

While I get what you're trying to say idolatry unbecomes you, Sam.

It's not idolatry.

Shatner is a flawed man, as is Nimoy. Shatner's flaws are more obvious because he -- usually unintentionally -- can't help but draw attention to them. Nimoy is a little more reclusive, so his flaws are less obvious.

Either way, forty years later, Star Trek still remains in the hearts and minds of the American public, for the most part, because of those two men.

If a bunch of internet fanboys want to work out their issues by throwing rocks at glass houses, that's not my problem.

I simply recognize the situation for what it is.

I 100% agree with you Sam..:techman:..
I mean look at Nimoy's Uber posturing in the wake of TWOK?!?!? Not only does Spock get resurrected, but he comes out of the deal with a multi-directing deal with the studio. I have NEVER seen as much as a snippet about anyone disagreeing with that as much as people getting on William Shatner.

Posturing? Nimoy is a great deal more humble than Shatner has ever been.

I am so glad you were the "fly on the wall" in those contract negotiations..;)
